The coarse stone slid lazily over the steel of the harsh dark blade, his fingers feeling over the side of the edge as they held the stone. His leg dangled almost relaxed over the branch within he sat, his eyes not even paying attention to his work as he watched the woods. Leaning back once more he watched the doe who had snapped a branch near him, his lips slipping with a slight smile as he watched her lead a fawn to the grove near him. Continueing his rythmic sharpening of the blade he finally looked to it, the heat had hardened the steel well, the craftsmanship was exactly as he'd hoped it'd be, soon it'd be time for the ornamentation of the blade, the etching that would make the blade and owner one. Taking a slow breath he continued sharpening, his eyes once more watching the doe as kept watchful eyes on her youth and the surrounding area.
Dina hummed softly to herself as she moved over the rocks above the waterfall. She had left earlier that morning to see to the perimeter markings, something she did seasonally when she was here, as Orbb has stirred about to wake and go about whatever it was that had dragged him from the cave these last few weeks. Sometimes she wondered if his secrets were out of habit or on purpose with her. She shrugged and stabbed another fish with her pike and flipped it deftly to shore to add to the pile she had accumulated there. "That should be enough fish." She laughed as she headed back to shore. "And enough time 'alone' without me." she thought as the fish were piled onto a small woven pallet of reeds and wrapped for the trip back to the cave.
As she headed back, her eyes lazily half closed. She was well within the perimeter of the camp and too many slow, lazy days of silence and peace had left her slightly complacent. She wasn't paying much attention as she hummed the soft tune absently and meandered slowly back to the cave, her sword forgotten on her hip and the pike tapping in an uneven rhythum on the leaves as she walked.
Orbb sniffed the wind as a hummed tune drifted to adept ears, smirking slightly he continued with the stroke of stone to steel he'd been in the process of. Slipping his other booted foot from it's resting place in a knot hole he slid from the tree, the doe and fawn both starting as he came to a crouched landing not far from them. Watching them trail off he whispered, " Best to watch the woods more closely mother, your child will learn your laziness in not searching" Chuckling he rose, his eyes searching his surroundings as he took from his belt a simple leather sheath he'd made for the sword. There would be plenty of time for leatherworking and the etching as it progressed to that of it's true shape. Silently he slid into the woods around this grove, his eyes searching the forest for signs of passage as always as he slipped like shadows through the forest towards their cave.
Dina headed towards the cave but stopped well downside of it and cleaned the fish well before burying the remains and heading towards the cave. She stopped on the hill the cave was under and watched a deer and fawn head thru the far clearing and into the woods on the other side. She smiled remembering hunting thru these woods with Orbb long ago. It seemed like just yesterday, though, when he had taught her to read the signs and hunt the game that wasn't too old, too young, or newly mothered. In her musing she failed to notice the other figure moving below her. His gait was even and silent and she wouldn't have missed him had she been looking, but if merely listening, even she doubted she would have been able to hear him. But she wasn't. Not today.
The pike hung lazily in one hand, the small roll of dinner fish in the other as she inhaled the fragrances of the forest, but didn't bother sorting them. She was practically on top of the cave. She could even smell the remains of the morning coals from the fire had she tried. Dinner wasn't for another candle mark or two, she decided, so she set the fish and pike down and slid down to rest her back against a tree, close her eyes once more and just listen to the breeze in the trees. It felt good to be home. She had slept well these last two moons and having his body there made it all the more pleasant. Within moments she was lost in thoughts as the soft hum once more fell from her lips.
He watched the form vanish from the hillside, his eyes were alert even in his lingering relaxed times. Quirking a brow slightly he didn't note a single wave or indication she'd seen him. 'odd' he thought to himself, slowly unsheathing the new sword he felt the edge of it, still not sharp enough to cut flesh without great pressure. Smiling he moved, his form crouching to the ground as he slid up the hill towards where she'd headed. Raising up as he neared the crest he caught sight of her leg from the other side of the tree, smirking slightly as he now approuched even more slowly, a wolf about to down a healthy doe, he thought to himself with a grin. He wondered if she'd let her guard down, curious if he could indeed make it all the way without so much as a stirring.
Dina hadn't heard him. Her thoughts had captured her enough that her complacentcy left her, truly, a fawn without a doe to watch after her. She humed and as he approached he would recognize the lullaby he once hummed to her when she was so deeply hurt she slept for several days save for disturbing nightmares only his voice seemed to be able to chase away. He hadn't believed she had heard him because of her pain induced sleep, but it seemed she had. And her pitch was near perfect. The pike was just out of reach of her fingers and her sword was half tucked behind her to make seating more comfortable. It left only the dagger in her boot as an accessable weapon of defence if he remembered her placing it there that morning as she left. Her hair had been plated earlier in the morning, but the day, and leaning on the trees, had caused it to dance in soft whisps around her face and the tree trunk as well.
