Knox walked into the room backwards pulling the cart behind him, and as he stared over at the two he caught sight of their auras first. They were beyond resting, they were out cold. He sighed and stared up at the ceiling. It bothered him not. Soup was soup for a reason, it could be heated later. He set the breat out on the table and placed the pot of soup on the counter, grabbing up the pitcher of tasty wine-like juice and ruined it by dumping his entire flask of green liquid into the mixture, causing it to swirl into the liquid and make an eerie ghostly shape as it sunk. He swirled the mixture around a few time and took a few big gulps of it, shaking his head as he caught the recoil. Knox had created a system to reproduce perfectly any form of alcohol in a 100% mixture. You could take any type of flammable alcohol and set it apart from it's base by burning at the specific temperature the alcohol in a drink caught fire, and evaporated. At this point he collected the smoke and steam produced and used alchemy to transmute the ash and bits of liquid and smoke resin back into a liquid. The entire process smelled awful and the end product tasted like the ass of a frost weasel, but it was as strong as alcohol came, and Knox took great pride in it, keeping gallons of it made at a time.
Knox was so jealous of the girl. Here she had the power to do such great things with her gift, and his power rested almost solely in magic involving the flame. His destiny, it seemed was to destroy things in order to advance himself and his family's honor. He had had enough. In this girl he saw...hope. He saw the chance to make a person who could change the world someday. She was already far better a person than he in her innocence, but as she grew her mimicry would certainly evolve into full fledged mancery. He sighed as he chugged down another liter or so of the distasting liquid and eyed the floor as he leaned against the counter. With a flick of his wrist he would pull a source of fire from upstairs and send it floating down the stairs. It was a blanket made from a very special type of down. It was made from phoenix feather and was always warm, but could never burn. He had several things like this with which he could make a new cloak, or for that matter order a new one from his homeland, or at least from the people who knew where he was, which was very few.
Knox would walk over and lock the door, before heading to the only open window and staring out it into the cold night air. Perhaps these two were just what he needed. Maybe he should just mellow out and live life their way. He thought of preparing her, but for what? She did not share a fate like his, and after whoever was following them was vanquished, they wouldn't have any more use for such powers. ' What am I thinking? What am I even doing here? ' He sighed and placed a finger over each eye, causing two small fiery orbs to form at his two knuckles and swirl in themselves. He sent them toward the woman's shop, allowing himself to see through them, and anyone walking along the street would see two eery floating orbs of fire moving of their own accord. And if they looked close in their depths they could see the blue eyes of the old Auron. The kind, vibrant, and vigilant eyes of a young warrior with everything to prove. Now...now he was just hiding from his life. The orbs disappeared just outside her shop and he looked through his own eyes as he closed and locked the window, setting again the system that protected the house. Without the power of concentrated fire no one could ever enter the house, and even then they'd have to know that's what they had to do.
Auron...Syrus...Knox...what's in a name? Would a rose by any other name smell as sweet? I don't know, what does an old man care of such romantic ideals...I'd best to stick to myself and this town. Maybe tomorrow after they leave I'll leave them be. Perhaps of course I would help them with their pursuers, but who am I to butt in like that?
Knox looked over toward the two, now bundled in both blankets, snug and asleep. He made his way up the stairs and plopped upon an enormous granite slab devoid of cover or pillows and straightened himself flat upon it as he fell into a soft slumber, easily to stir if he needed. All his sleep was false lately assumed he would never be able to accomplish proper sleep again.

Bekka stirred slightly and realized the lights were out and the fireplace dim. The sun had begun to make the street outside glow with false dawn's promise of a nice day to come.
Adjusting Beth to lie her on the couch, she bit her lip and stood up. Walking towards the kitchen she notices the cart with its covered dishes. Lifting one lid she sees the stew and dips the tip of her finger in. Even cold she can tell it was incredible. She sighed stepping back into the kitchen and not seeing Knox. "Musta sent him to bed when we passed out." She sighed thinking how insulted he must be.
She turned to the basin of water in the corner and lifted out a handful to wash her face, drying with a rag on the rod beside it. She then tiptoed back into the dining room and moved to lift Beth. They would let Knox sleep and come back this afternoon to fill the larder. Beth stirred slightly as Bekka lifted her and whimpered caught in a bad dream. Bekka sat on the edge of the small couch rocking her trying to soothe her. All the panic the night before, poor little one must be dreaming of the fire again.

A soft 'click' and a searing heat would be heard as the door to the outside was unlocked and opened, Knox walking in with a large bar across his shoulders, dangling a large amount of water on one side, in a jug, tied by a rope and hanging down to his knees. The other side held a crate of unknown substance, and stunk of death. He eyed the two rousing from their sleep and walked across the threshold sideways, carefully pushing the door to, but not closed behind him. He walked halfway across the room without a word, then looked over to them both. He cocked his head and tried to utter a sentenced, some sort of words, but he could not muster it, he entered the back room via the swinging doors and disappeared into a hidden room next to the small icebox in the back corner. Moments later he would immerge from the room, and then the kitchen, back out behind the bar, and pour himself up a drink, his gaze falling upon the two women and awaiting them to break the ice on the conversation of the new day. With the rising sun he was refreshed and back to full strength, no longer the meager form of himself he had been in the night, but a powerful presence resonating with his stifling sacred aura. For anyone of magical perception, to be around him was a task as ebbing the flowing waves of his own resonance was a feat, even in his current condition. To those sensitive to such things he often pulled hard to lower his energy that rapidly flowed through his body and poured out of his body into the form of his constantly 'burning' aura. His eyes no longer glowed, and were like an icy blue, almost white.
As he poured a few alcohols and substances into a glass with one hand, his other hand would constantly glow and alter the contents. He was transmuting the mixture into a pure alcohol blend, and it turned a dark green, almost black color and stunk of burning leaves. Still steaming, he poured the cup of liquid into his throat and swallowed it wholly, following it up with what looked like a sunflower seed, but smaller. It was white throughout and produced steam in his mouth, turning his breath cool and refreshing. It was the almost 'candylike' afterdinner treat he had prepared through his alchemy by transmuting and fusing freezeberries with sesame seeds, making the concoction of edible treat he liked to dub, " Freezy Seeds. "

Rebekka startled slightly as Knox walked in. She had figured he was upstairs sleeping. As he drew closer to them, Beth stirred restlessly in her sleep but calmed as he passed by. Bekka smiled and shift Beth back to the couch and covered her curled up body as it rolled to face the back of the couch as if trying to withdraw.
Bekka rose and whispered softly. "Anything I can help with? I am so sorry about dinner last night." Her lips curved in an almost pleading smile. "Honest I am. And I hope you will let me make it up to you." She lightly rested her hand on the bar and let her fingers brush his. She would have laid her hand on his, but she feared hurting him, remembering the scars now once more hidden beneath gloves.
Her eyes would look up at him and shine softly in the false dawn glow of light as she spoke, not quite a whisper but not quite full voiced either. "Beth likes you. I am sure of it. I only hope you can forgive her rash behavior last night. She didn't understand." She looked down and started to slide her fingers back as she glanced over her shoulder at the restless child. "She has been thru so much."
**
Beth stirred in her sleep. It was hot! Too hot for the fall weather night she remembered. She slid from her bed and tip toed to the balcony railing overlooking the entrance to their grand home. As she glanced to Bekka's chamber door and saw it closed down the hall, she figured her parents must be home. The nanny was still asleep.
She started to head down the steps when her mother screamed and ran around the corner lunging for the steps. Looking up in horror at the child's scream she screamed back. "RUN BETH!! RRUNNNNNN!" Suddenly her mother burst into flames as a man stepped from around the corner with a blade twice his size in his hands. He held a flame ball in the palm of one hand and looked at her in ways no man should ever look at a child.
"Yes, little Beth.... r u n..." He suddenly threw the fireball at her. On reflex her hands rose to block it and in doing so seemed to turn it back to smash carelessly into the wall by the man's head. As he growled an began to form another, she ran for Bekka's room screaming.
The hallway seemed endless... she ran and panted... the door wasn't getting any closer... heat and fire rising behind her, getting closer... she screamed for Bekka, the scream becoming a whimper to those listening around her... and still the flames came... closer... closer...

The girl whimpered and tossed in the blanket now entangled around her.
Something was wrong.

Knox shrugged, feeling crisp and refreshed after having gone for a morning bath and his bandages changed underneath his newly polished armor, as opposed to the soot ridden disgrace it was last night. His cloak hung at the door, and this vision of him probably wouldn't do her any good to his character. He was dressed like a thief, or an assassin. Blades hung about his sides and the clearly visible sword harnassed to his back moved with his shoulders as he expressed his opinion. " You have nothing to apologize for, it was my fault in the way I approached the situation, and the girl was just trying to defned you. I'm just glad no one was hurt. If she had fumbled the knife I was afraid I would've had to intervene, but she did just fine...this time. " He gave her a half hearted, broken smile as he took off his mask, the bandaging missing from his face. Anyone with eyes would notice that for a simple night's recovery, his face looked remarkably better. And with each passing night he would grow more and more of his power back. He could feel the rhythm of his aura pulsing in and out of his body with each passing day, healing the complex aural network that extended his power. With the enormous amount of metaphysical exertion he must have displayed, he had not only damaged his body, but the flowing of his 'chi' in and out of his body. But as he stepped up the usage of his power, and continued to heal it was steadily returning to normal as well, hence the extraordinary amount of aural presence he held his morning as his network strived to reverse the damage.
He nodded at a second glass, and pulled a jug from beneath the counter, still cold from where he had prepared and chilled it before leaving. The ice would rattle as he pulled it from it's container and poured her a glass, setting the jug down beside it. It was the same mixture from last night, minus all the alcohol. It was like a type of fruit juice mixture, but from more exotic things than strawberries, apples, and the like. He looked down at her hand and grabbed it up in his own. " Two things you simply must know about me. You're not going to hurt me, or my feelings very easily. Please feel free to be comfortable and don't worry so much. " He looked over at the child struggling on the couch and sighed, thinking to himself. An idea sparked in his mind, and he would reach into the large belt pouch at his side, and pull out what looked to be a series of three flutes, bound together. With a little positioning he began to utter forth a soft musing of calming tunes from the delicate instrument, and fill the room with the melody of a long lost tune from his own homeland. The word's involved with the song were of a young valiant warrior who left his home to fight in a war. In the opposing nation he met a girl who he fell in love with, but they could never be together. Stricken, he abandoned the army, and was put to death for his treason. The girl was so devastated by this act, that she used a form of mastered martial arts to challenge the general to a fair duel. She told him her story and explained the terms of the challenge.
If she won, the war would be over, and the two nations would sign for peace, never again to fight their petty battles. With a quickening tune the battle played out in the flutes as he eyed both the women and stood behind the bar, concentrating on the story as it played out in his mind. He remembered the end, but could not muster the end of the song in it's flute form. He stopped just short of the end of the playful battle tune, and placed the flutes upon the table, looking perplexed and frustrated. " Heh, I guess I'm a little rusty. " He looked over to see if the song had calmed the small child while keeping her asleep, but he could not see over the back of the large couch that lay before the dying embers.

Beth settled a little, the hallway wasn't so long and the het not so intense.
**
Beth dreamt the same dreams, night after night. The horror of the death of her mother and the escaping of her and Bekka into a night lit up like dawn from the fire of her home as they ran from it.
She sighed a little and calmed but still remained trapped in the burning hell of her mind.
**
Bekka smiled and walked over to replace the blanket she had managed to kick free and stroked her hair from her face. Turning back to Knox she smiled eyeing the knives and daggers and hoping she never truly upset him. Taking the glass she took a sip and smiled. "Thank you. I will remember that. Is there anything I can do to help you this morning? I don't want to wake her quite yet to leave. She hasn't slept this long in a very long time. And as soon as I am able, I will replenish what I need to fire proof your cloak once more." She bit her lip looking at the bandaged hands and the slowly healing face. "I am sorry you were hurt."

" I did what I had to do for my peo-...for... I did what I needed to do in a situation that called upon me to fight. " The screams of his friends and subjects screamed in his mind as their bodies burned and were ripped apart. He stared at the little girl, twitching on the couch, running from her own demons. At least Syrus and the people he loved were no longer in any danger, how horrible it must be to think that someone could come after you and kill you at any time. Syrus had been pampered in his youth, and not sent to his training until he was over 100 years old, ( The equivalent of his late teenage years. ) The death of mortals had haunted him over and over, those who were cursed with shorter lives were destined to leave him, and it had detached him so. Even if they could be reborn by the Rights of the Phoenix, they would become children again, and not remember him in the least. Syrus' story was long, and had been the bane of many men. He had killed, and had those closed to him killed so many times he had lost count. He always wondered which 'life' would be his last, but he had always managed to survive, though he had never come closer to death as this last time less than a few months in the past. He stared at the drink he had poured for her, untouched. He shurgged it off, and spoke once more, confidence in his voice. " Have you enrolled her in the school? "

Bekka smiled as he looked at her glass. Taking a sip, her eyes would close and a soft sigh of contentment would fall from her lips. Looking at him smiling she blushed softly. "I admit, having had nothing but water for as long as I can remember, this is almost an aphrodesiac." She laughed and looked down.
"I am still sorry it had to happen to you. Even if it is for those we care for." She looked to the couch then back to her drink. "No, we only arrived last night. I am not sure yet what we will do. She is not like other children and I fear her using her rage and hurting someone by accident." She closed her eyes once more but this time in fear not ecstacy. "I don't think we can run anymore."
Looking up at him once more, "Can you understand? I don't know what it is that makes things happen around her. I don't pretend to know why this man is after her so much. But I do know she is unlike any other children I ever knew. And because of it I will continue to protect her the best I can."
She took the cup sipping it once more and turned towards the window walking towards it to look at the street as it lit up. "At least for as long as I am able." She sipped the smoothe drink with her back to him listening to the uneven breathing of the child. Something she had become accustomed to unfortunately.

He nodded as she complimented on his drink. " Then don't run, " He said as he took another swig from his alcohol and closed his eyes, enjoying it and savoring the content, as horrible as it tasted. His own drink was that same 100% alcohol blend made from magically syphoning out everything else but the intoxicating elements. " I was thinking. This shop doesn't take up much of my time, so I was planning on taking up a job at the school. As...well, as a sifu. I would be taking the magically gifted children into a class every now and then and teaching them control, as well as practical implications of magic. Also I will be offering a private class to those interested for combat, but that will all have to be signed off by the guardians of the children, and take place off school grounds for obvious reasons. The children will be completely under my control, and, I don't know. Perhaps you would feel safer allowing her to get her education if I worked with her? " He looked away from the woman, fearing to offend her care of the child, which was in fact, excellent besides the fact that she tended to ignore her gift, usually.
He pulled out a rag and began absent mindedly wiping down the bar, as he had somewhat of a personal bar turned public now that the tavern was gone. He looked to the fireplace and blinked, allowing the cinders to die off, figuring the child was hot enough as it was. All was calm and good in the shop when, out of nowhere a slow rap came across the door, causing it to creak open, as Knox had left it open for them to leave if they wished. His eyes grew wide and he flipped sideways over the bar and crashing on the wooden floor between the woman and the door. He did not know anyone to come to the shop so early, and he never expected anyone. He dropped to the floor and sweeped his leg out, issuing a wave of meager fire that connected with the metal of the door and slammed it shut, locking the mechanism that held the door tight that morning and the night before. " Who goes there!? "

Bekka screamed slightly and jumped back dropping her glass of water as Knox leapt past her kicking the door shut.
She ran to the couch and grabbed Beth backing close to the fireplace wondering what was going on. This was a shop. Why would he treat a potential customer this way. Beth, still half asleep whimpered in her mama's arms trying not to make too much noise as she whispered. "What's wrong mama?"
Bekka stroked her hair softly and crooned reassurances at her.

He had felt the aura of almost every person in this village either last night or at other times in his stay here. And outside there were 10 men with completely unrecognizable energy signatures, and they were powerful, very strong, almost as if... Knox thought to himself where he had seen this type of aura before. The power wasn't from the village, which was why he was so on edge, why would a member of another village come here for their goods? A voice called back from the other side of the door, too muffled to understand, and a flash appeared in front of Knox, the same type he had used the night before at the fireside to send out his order. His own message dropped to the ground, the seal broken, and a paper shuffled out, the list of items crossed through. " By the gods, I apologize. " Knox shoved a small pyrebolt into the door lock and pulled it open, grabbing the hand of the man on the other side and shaking it, of course, they were the delivery men with the things he had requested, building supplies and a few of his posessions from his 'previous home.'
" Were you able to procure everything on the list? "
" Yes, m'lord. Free of charge, of course. "
Knox would exit the building and the man standing at the doorway would eye the two girls strangely as he followed them out. Knox ordered that the shipment be brought around to the side port and stopped there. " Nonsense, please, take a tip at least. " Knox reached into one of the covered crates a grabbed out a few obsidian coins and placed them in the hands of the lead man. " I trust you won't let anyone know where I am? "
" Of course, m'lord. " The men would salute and head back to their horses, and disappear on the trail leaving the village. Knox would unlock the door to the side of the building and grab two of the large crates, carrying them inside sideways, kicking the door closed behind him. He carried the boxes to the large bar and placed them down, grunting slightly. " I'm sorry about that, I might have overreacted a bit, but I didn't recognize their power signatures from anyone in the village, I was worried that it might be...well I was worried. " He brushed a bit of his long locks of hair from his eyes and dug into the crate, pulling out a few things and studying as he put them back and stared over at Bekka again. " I hope I didn't wake the child, but hey, after I bring in these crates we can have breakfast, what do you think? " He cracked another half hearted smile and disappeared outside only to reappear again with another set of heavy crates, his forearms glowing with the runes in his skin. With the shipment he seemed to be in quite a better mood in relation to last night. The combination of company, a nice rest, and quick service had made him as cheery as was possible for Knox to be.

Bekka moved towards the door carrying Beth who kept trying to twist to look at Knox. "I appreciate the offer. But I see you have a delivery to see to. I also need to see to my shop today so I can open as soon as possible. We will have to try dinner again, sometime. But I fear I need to get Beth to her true bed and see to the Silver Needle." She moved towards the open door and smiled softly.
"Sorry for the dropped mug. I am glad it didn't break. And please... feel free to stop by the Needle anytime. I will let you know, of course, as soon as the mixture to Flame Dance your cloak is available." She stood now in the open doorway hoping she had not upset him.

Knox sighed, eyeing the paper on the floor at her feet, panicking slightly, if she read it she would find out who he was. He walked swiftly to the doorway and nodded, trying to look defeated. " Very well, if you feel you must go, do come again when you have a chance, I owe you a meal. " He slyly kicked the letter aside as they exited the open door and walked out with them, pulling it close to him, his hand behind his back. " Also I have a full supply of food here when you decide to shop. And do think of what I said about schooling. I think the interaction and the education is vital to any child. " He nodded and looked at the little girl, trying his best to smile as the door clicked behind him. " How would that be? Having me as a teacher, so that you could annoy me? " His eyes were closed tightly and he tried to force a grin, but it probably looked hideous.

Bekka backed into the street and towards the hill and the Silver Needle. "I will keep it in mind, Knox. Honest I will. But it has to be Beth's choice and we need to settle down and catch our breaths first. Please do not be upset." She smiled once more before turning.
"I have enjoyed passing the evening with you and will come back for meat today or tomorrow I promise." She turned then and hurried back to her shop with Beth clinging to her still half asleep as the sun rose.

3 Devil in a Red Dress
Lythiam « on: July 26, 2006, 09:54:03 pm »
(Continued from the Shop Unseen Treasures - Pretty Shiny Things!)
Walked out into the street filled witht he scent of smoke, the bag of coins gripped within his right hand, the stick in his left,. Tapping hard against the ground he slid his left foot until it hit the softness of grass, his boots soft soled to allow him to feel the curving of the ground beneath his feet. Nodding slowly he would tap with his stick, the thunk against grass initiating a step. Walking along he took in the scenery, his nose taking in the scent of the flowers of gardens and growing wild alike, the smell of smoke almost overwhelming though unable to mask the sweet bouquet of beauty nature held, his ears picking up not only the sound of his stick and the steps of his companion but also the laughter of children, the rustle of leaves in a breeze, the whispered exasperation of shopkeeps gauking at the doors of their establishments as they looked upon the smoke in the sky. Walking along he spoke softly, " kindly inform me of where this shop you saw with the clothes was, I don't shop regularly." Chuckling softly he hit a curve in the road, stepping off into the grass with both feet. Stopping he felt with his stick listening til the thud of dirt beneath it became clear once more, stepping over to his right foot onto the road he was sure to thunk the ground many more times, the succession becoming more frequent before finding the road became straight once more.
Taking a step he felt something squish beneath his foot, the aroma raising up from where he stepped let him know what he'd stepped into, a road apple ( horse manure). Shaking his head he knocked the stick against his boot several times, dragging the boot along the ground in an attempt to rid himself of the lovely gift presented to him by luck and a mare.

Shy easily slipped away from the moronic older childern who were keeping all the other younger kids at bay. Now she wanderd the town streets looking for something to do. She was nine now and very proud of it. She walked with her back straight and head high. She was a very beautiful lil girl. She had long fire red curly hair that hung down to the middle of her back. Her huge blue eyes shine with intellegents and pride. Shy wasn like the other girls in town. She didnt stay inside all the time learning how to knit and cook. She was always outside playing or learning from Rance how to fight and defend herself. Thus she had dark tanned skin and she would smell like earth and there she was walking down the street smileing at some of the shopowners and town people that were still there. She was on a mission though looking for one of the shopowners or widows that she could help to earn alil coin in her pocket. Rance had told her that she should learn how to earn money to buy things she wants and she was determined to do so. He mind was set on this new quial pen she saw in a shop window that she wanted to buy for school she just need enough money to get it but alot of the people were not in town today they all ran torwards the smoke. Shy glanced torwards the smoke drifting in the air and shudderd slightly. She hated fire if it wasnt for Rance she would of been burned alive. She simply sighed and kept walking untill she heard a familiar sound. She quickly turned to see a man tapping the ground with a cane. She frowned alil as she thought it was Rance but this man was not Rance. He was to skinny and way to femine looking to be Rance. She could defiantly tell he was blind though no second thought about it. She watched as he stepped in the manure on the road and bit back a giggle. She knew it was rude of her to laugh aloud he couldnt of helped it. So to make up for her rudeness she joked over to the man. "Hello m'lord my name is shy" As she said this she bowed deeply to him even though he couldnt see she would still pay him the respect as a elder. as she straightend up she continued to speak. "I couldnt help but see that you might need some assistance. If you dont mind May I inquire where you are going and if you would like some help getting there?". She smiled sweetly to him even though it wouldnt matter if he saw it. The thought is what counts which is what Rance has always told her.

Had been so busy biting her nails that Lythiam’s words took a moment to register… “Oh… um.” Her words halted quickly upon seeing that he indeed found a hot and steamy treasure left behind by a horse. “That isn’t good.” She said softly, now a step behind when noticing a light green splotch on her hand. Perhaps it was just from counting the coins out for Lythiam, she thought and then shrugged it off; unaware that she also was getting a light green splotch on her cheek.
Stepping up just behind him, while being careful of the horse manure, she stopped with her hand mid-air as it reached for his elbow so she could help him around the ‘mine field’. “It might be...” Falling silent she not only heard the approach of the young girl, but saw her coming as well. A bow, a name given, an offer of help and the thief remained silent for the time being. The young girl who called herself Shy appeared to be well taken care of and like most people from other towns she had been too, Shy appeared to be oblivious to the thief standing there to help Lythiam. Not to rob him, though guide him to their next destination.
Anger, perhaps even jealousy of this young Shy brought a sneer to her lips momentarily. Was Shy there to take away the only person that cared about her…Lythiam? Perhaps she had been seen after all going into that pretty shop and removing the pretty bottles and Shy would tell on her and then cause Lythiam to not want her around. Though she knew the latter wasn’t true, she remembered now seeing Shy at the school when she had passed by, and she took the long way around until finding the shop with all the pretty bottles. None had followed her.
Sighing, she took a step back, her hand falling back to her side. It was up to Lythiam if he chose the offered help of Shy. Besides, again the only ones that saw her were the unseen and this town was obviously no different from any other. She now dreaded the day she would have to make her leave and leave behind Lythiam.

He continued to tap at his boot clearing away the reminants of manure from it, raising his head only slightly he heard the intermingling of two very distinct voices, one being of a stranger though still a young girl, the other of his own companion. Furrowing his brows slightly he heard the retreat of his companion as the stranger approuched offering her name and asistance. Nodding slowly he set his boot to the hard dirt, his eyes closing as he took in all that was around him, the scent of the soap carried from the body of his companion along with the slight sent of a nervous persperation carried on the breeze, the scent of the smoke the stranger had come into contact with and the movements of her feet as they approuched. Smiling softly he spoke, " Good noontide Shy, myself and my companion are off to shop for a gown. While she is all the help I need I suspect the company of another female might offer some aid to her choice." Turning slowly he listened and took in the scent of his companion, practicly looking back to her with dull useless eyes as he spoke, " would you like company on our trip madam?" Smiling he awaited her choice.

(I apologize for posting out of turn. Tired of waiting)
Took the bend of Lythiam's arm as he spoke to the girl known as Shy. "Sure, I suppose I could use a little help. I've never done this before." She said softly before guiding him around a series of bad apples before looking to Shy. "That is if she would like to join us." she added letting Shy decide if she wanted to join or not. In the mean time she hid her free hand behind her back, the green spot was growing and it appeared she had a problem.

Shy tilted her head her beautiful blue eyes looking deep into the eyes of the young woman standing behind the blind man. Shy frowned as he question to Lythiam was pushed off onto another. And yet the young woman didnt quiet answer her question either she simple offerd another question. She smiled brightly though as Lythiam spoke of a gown. "Well m'lord the silver needle is closed today but I do know of a woman who makes beautiful dresses. Maybe she can make a nice dress for um." Shy looked at the young woman and smiled deeply."I am afraid i did not catch your name. Can you please say it again."

Listening to the slight banter, almost rivallry between the two girls he stood stock still. Hearing a sore subject come up and almost perceptively feeling the tension that was about to be felt by his companion, Lythiam simply intervined. " We'd love to have your company Lady Shy, though please forgive the anonimity of my friend here. I think it would be best for the time being if we simply refered to her as Madam, until we have suitibly gained the privilage of a name." Smiling warmly he nodded towards Shy's voice as if giving an unspoken message to drop the subject of her name. Starting up his stroll once more he took in what was around him, allowing his hand to slip behind him and open to allow his friend's own arm or hand to accompany him more closely. The slight tapping of his stick the only indication of his handicap.

Panic only filled her for a moment until Lythiam retrieved the question she dreaded, the question of her name. Nodding, fingers now green for whatever reason, now slipped into the hand of Lythiam as his hand moved back behind him.
"The Silver Needle is open, I walked by it earlier and saw someone in there busy making gowns and tending to women. It appeared perhaps that some sort of fancy party was in the works." Hushing quickly after a brief rant, fingers tightened as they laced with that of Lythiam's.
Never before would she have acted such a way, or even taken the hand of Lythiam, though now she felt odd. The green stain appearing on her skin, and this girl that came out of nowhere had set her off her original plan... a plan she would have to carry out another time and alone.

Shy slowly clasped her hands together behind her back as the the blind man begin to speak. A soft smile could be seen on her face as she listen to his words. Whe he spoke of the question she asked her eyes went back to meet the unknown girls gaze but her soft smile never faded. She was about to speak when she saw the girls hand reach out for the blind mans hand it was all green. Her smile then changed as she had a frown apon her now. "Madam is there somthing wrong with your hand?" She stepped close now examineing the hand that was now tightly grasping the blind mans hand. Shy completly missed the statment of the silver needle now open. "Do you have a diease's?" If she did Shy did not shy away from her but was more intersted. Suddenly Shy's eyes lit up as she looked back at the unknown girl and the blind man. "I have a friend that probaby has somthing that will fix that". Shy quickly reached her hand out and took ahold of the unkown girls free hand grasping it tight, tighter then any girl her age could grip which showed this lil girl was unusually strong. If the grip hurt the unkown girl it was not on purpose but out of excitment to help somone.

<<<coming from TAVERN thread named OOOPS>>>
Bekka scurried down the street with Beth in tow. She passed Lythiam and his companions smiling cheerfully and murmuring hello as she went. Oddly they came from the hills despite everyone else they had passed heading the opposite direction.
About six shops further down the street the woman and child stopped before the Silver Needle and soon were embracing and looking at the store as if it were an icon to be worshiped.

Nodding and giving a soft hello to the lady passing whom had wished him a greeting he continued on Madam's lead. Smiling slightly he felt along the road only a moment with the stick before feeling pulled once more and hearing the shocked loud speech of Shy, her talking of a ailment or difference in her hand compared to her as she tugged his friend. Turning with the pull he stepped back and around his brows furrowed slightly as he spoke in a deep authoritive tone, " Lady Shy, Would you like it if I were to point out differences in you from myself? For example, you speak with an accent far different then my own or Madam's. Such views are the reason I am glad I am unable to see. So many these days respond to the very image of a person and not the person themself. While I am sure you are trying to help Madam, I assure you if she wishes such help she will ask in her due time. " Slamming his stick down into the earthen roadway he allowed his companions hand to drop if she wished it to but gave no indication he wished it to leave his. Instead he stood awaiting Shy to either appologize or scamper off in a fit.

Looked briefly to the woman and child that passed quickly with a greeting, though the constant tugging of her hand by Shy was becoming irritating, not to mention that Shy had to open her mouth about the green spots she seemed to be growing rapidly. Frowning, she listened to the words of Lythiam, happy he had again come to her rescue; however, how was she going to explain the green spots to him. Deciding quickly it would have to wait she gave a good tug and broke the death grip Shy had on her free hand while her other hand remained locked with Lythiam’s. She wasn’t letting go, not now. Torn between anger and hurt she hid behind Lythiam and lowered her head so as not to attract any more attention to herself.

Shy frowned as the blind man tried to repmend her for doing somthing bad when she did no such thing. "Very well m'lord I bid thee a good day" Her expression changed completly to heartless and uncareing. She then proceeded to walk past the two as she spoke for the blind man to hear. "Its not a discoloration of her skin because it keeps growing up her arm and if you could see you could tell that it is bothering her." With that Shy spotted the young girl playing on her porch. She grinned big as she ran up to her slowly kneeling down to peer at the toy she was playing with."Hi my name is Shy Whats yours>" She gave the girl a big warm smile her red hair lightly swayed with the wind as he big blue eyes watched the neat toy the young girl beth was playing with.

4 Morning Openings
Rebekka « on: November 04, 2006, 03:52:34 am »
Bekka and Beth were cleaning up and setting a sign in the front window that they were opened as Bekka saw the group the had passed moments ago. The man and woman and child looked almost like a family, but there was an edge between them that spoke to Bekka making her think either they were not family, or there was serious strife between them.
Going back inside she uncovered some boxes with a few dresses in them and hung them in the window along with a wooden form draped in a woolen fur lined cape.
She was organizing bolts of fabric and taking inventory as Beth played on the wooden steps outside the door playing with the onyx toy Syrus had given her.

Beth looked up as the other girl bounded towards her and smiled. "I am Beth and that's my ma. We live upstairs now. Where do you live?"
Beth moved over, though there was already plenty of space on the wooden porch, as if making room for the little girl.

Shy stood up as Beth moved over and sat next to her. "I live in the travelers lodge with my papa he's the owner." Shy slowly reaches in her pocket and pulls out a very fragile and woodend dragon toy. It was painted all black and looked alot like the reall dragon that stood just over the hill. "I have one like that but its made out of wood and very very old. What kind of stone is that made of? Oh and are you going to be going to school here. I do you can walk with me if you like." She smiled as she wants to make new friends. the friends she does have are the mean boys at school who like to pick on her because she knows more about self defense then they do. Her attention was again taken by the blind man and girl standing down the street. "Those people there are strange and quiet rude I would stay away from them." She twisted the dragon around in her hand then held it out to beth. "You wanna hold it and I can hold yours."

Beth smiled. Her golden hair shining in the morning sun. She laughd as Shy rattled off questions. Handing the onyx toy to her she took the wooden dragon. "Your's is smooth and soft too." Looking at her ma inside she turned back to Shy.
"I don't know if I am going to school or not. Mama hasn't said if we are staying but I can't talk about it. I will walk with you if I can." She bit her lip a moment then looked back up an the blue in her eyes shone bright as a summer sky once more. "I don't know what the dragon is made from. The man at the store over there," she pointed to the butcher shop, "gave it to me."
She swung her arm around as if making the dragon fly and nodded at the people Shy spoke of. "I think the man can't see can he? He is using a stick like the man in our old village did cause he couldn't see either."

Shy glanced at beth's mother and gave a warm smile even if she saw it or not. Shy ran her fingers lightly over the onyx toy and set it on the ground lightly and begin to make the dragon walk around on the ground. As she did this she looked over to where beth was pointing at the butcher shop. "Hmm" She then continued to move the dragon toy around so that it bumbed into beths lake like a head butt. "Ha he gotchya" She giggled and made the dragon take flight. "It would be cool if you did go to school with me. You should ask you mama." She glanced back at the blind man and unknown girl and shrugged lightly"Yea he cant see but neither can my papa but it doesnt seem to slow him down." She flew the onyx dragon over her head makeing swashing noises. "Wouldnt it be cool if the toy dragons could really spit fire." She giggled and swashed the dragon down to the ground letting it land and leaving it there for a moment. "Why do you not think you are going to stay here? Your mama has a store here you would think she would stay to make money."

Beth smiled. "Let go of the dragons..." She set her's down next to the onyx one and smiled. "Watch this. I learnded it last night."
She bit her lip and squished her eyes as if concentration really hard. a small speck of fire popped in front of the dragons making them look like the spit fire. She laughed and leaned back gasping for a moment as if having just run very far. "There... now they spit fire." She laughed and picked the onyx and wooden toys up. "Which one do you want to play with now?"
She looked at Bekka as the woman stopped and waved at them and turned back to her work. "We move a lot but I can't say why. Ma says it's cause we have to not stay in one place. But I hope we stay here. I want to know more nice people and learn more magic like that man at the butcher shop."
She then bent close and whispered. "Mama has magic too but she don't believe in it, so we can't talk about it if she comes outside. Ok?" The girl shook her head as if to make her point.

Shy watched closely to Beth as she concentrates on the two toys. Her blue eyes widen with disbelive as the fire spared infront of the toy makeing it seem as if they spit fire. A big grin crossed Shy's lips as she leaned closer watching the flames dance. If you looked into the lil girls eyes you could see the flames dance within a sky of blue. She giggled and picked her toy up examineing the mouth of it making sure it wasnt burnt which it wasnt and slowly set it back down her attention fully drawn to Beth as she spoke of moving around so much and of magic that she has and that Shy cannot metion around her mother Bekka. Shy nods vigoursly in agreement that she will not say anything.
Shy grinned lightly and let the grin fade into a serous look as she looked at Beth. "I have somthing very important to tell you Beth" Shy quickly tagged Beth before she could speak and took of running shouting behind her "YOUR IT!!!" Shy bolted around a building and climbed into a barrel trying to hide her giggles back as she sat quietly waiting for Beth to try and find her.

Beth laughed and dropped her toy. "HHEEYYY!" She took off running laughing around the corner and began looking around the boxes to find Shy. All the time laughing and trying to coax her friend out with promises or shared candies.
**
Bekka looked to the door and saw the girls playing. She turned back to her inventory taking up bolts of fabric and unrolling them to get accurate measurements of what she had and what she needed to order. She made a note in the margins about the fireproofing for the cloak the butcher was requesting.
Suddenly she heard Beth holler. Her heart nearly stopped and before she realized, the bolt of fabric was on the floor with parchment and coal stick as she bolted for the door. Running to the middle of the street she looked one way then the other and screamed in panic. "BBEEEETTTHHHHHH!"

Next door Knox could ever so slightly feel the pulse of his own pyrelight coming from another source, it was the girl, for sure. He smiled painfully as he felt the bandages freshly applied flex around his face, and he would then begin to walk to the door. Opening it, he could see the shop next to his own, where the two children played. He watched as they played with his toy Phoenix, made from the volcanic glass called obsidian, and was sad to see the girl place it down carelessly and rush off, though it was tough and would not break were anyone to accidentally step on it, looking up he had seen the two girls disappear, one a few yards behind the other, around the corner of a building. He heard loud noises from inside the Silver Needle before a woman crazed with the sense of protection she felt for her daughter came busting out clumsily galloping in a random direction, looking for her child.
He was struck with a sense of surprise. He had acted out of impulse earlier, but she looked like a completely insane person the way she ran screaming after no one, yelling Beth's name in the street. He sighed, he hoped she would not be this way each time he tried to teach her daughter, and hopefully, without Knox intervening Beth would learn an important lesson about her mother's feelings for her, which he would stay out of, but he kept a sensory pull out for the trail left, ever so small by the recent release of aural energy. He cocked his head to the side and felt out for the other girl, but with his attention honed in on such a small and insignificant energy it was impossible to split his concentration. Were Bekka to see him and and inquire of assistance, he would help, but until then he simply kept a watch out for her safety, ready for the drama that was to come between a mother and her daughter.

Bekka was calling for Beth when she grabbed up the toy phoenix and headed into the alley. As she took another breath to scream for the girl she heard laughter.
"No fair, Shy!" The laughter of Beth reached her ears and she paused and covered her mouth as she looked around the corner. Beth was looking around crates and in empty barrels when suddenly she removed the lid of one and yelled. "I FOUND YOU!" and laughed like Bekka hadn't heard in a very long time.
Fearing to disrupt the play and worry the child, she went back around the corner of the shop and stepped back inside wiping the tears of fright from her face. She had been so scared. She heard Beth's scream, suddenly the child was gone... it was like...
No, she wouldn't think that. She couldn't think of the Hunter coming again so soon. They had been so careful.
She stepped back into the shop placing the carved toy on the corner of the counter in the back of the store so it wouldn't be lost and went back to her inventory trying to gather her senses and breath once more before the kids came in.
***
Beth was looking everywhere and in everything when she came to the last barrel. Shoving the lid off she screamed out to the balled up figured inside. "I FOUND YOU!" She laughed and offered Shy a hand to help her out of the barrel. "That was a good hiding place. I would have ducked behind those crates. You know lots of good hiding places. Can you teach me?"
She sat down on the back step of the shop and scooted over once more to make room for her new friend as she caught her breath. It had been a long time since she had played like this and her flushed cheeks looked rosy and healthy on her. A bit difference from the near pasty child anyone would have seen the days prior to their coming here. "The stores are open now, I can ask Ma for a copper to get us apples if you know a place we can. I haven't had an apple in a long time. Not one that wasn't from a cellar." She smiled at her new friend.

Shy peaked out a small hole from within the barrel and watched as Beth dug around in the crates and other barrels. Shy clenched her hand tighter around her mouth biteing back a giggle everytime Beth got close. Suddenly Beth got to close and Shy pulled her eye away from the hole in the barrel and crawled into a small ball. Lightly suddenly poured down over her red hair as the lid to the barrel was lifted and then came the loud words of Beth.
Shy started giggling as she took beths hand and climbed back out of the barrel. "I'll show you some hideing places but I will not give all my sercets away." She giggled lightly and watched her friend sit. Unlike Beth Shy was tanned from being out in the sun so much and rarely seem to breath heavy as she was use to running and playing all day but there was some similar things she was hungry. She smiled brightly as Beth brought up the idea of a apple. "You dont need to ask your mom for money there are lots of apples at my place."She smiled big as she ploped down next to Beth. "But you should ask your mother if it is alright if you come over to my house." As she spoke that last bit she was picking at a lil split of wood that was stuck in her elbow from the barrel.

Beth bit her lip and looked down away from Shy's grin. "I... I don't know if I can go. Do you live very far away?"
Beth was scared suddenly and hugged her knees close using the toe of her shoe to poke at a passing ladybug. "I mean, I don't want to leave Ma alone is all. What ummm what if she needs me to help her?"
Beth was forcing reasons now and Shy would feel her withdraw and the heat, normally coming from the little girl, would fade slightly.
Beth looked behind her thru the open door to the empty entryway behind it. There was a staircase on the left leading up to their small home over the store and a hallway to the right leading to another door and the back of the shop.
Beth whispered softly still not looking at Shy. "I can't go too far... never been gone before." She hadn't realized the last was spoken out loud to her new friend.

Shy finally got the splitter out and throw it to the ground as she listen to Beth. Shy frowned as she looked at her friend who was not acting strange. Her whole deminor seem to die down as if Shy had just stroke her across the face. Shy sighed lightly and put her arm around her new found friend. With a big smile she began to speak."My papa named me Shy because when I was younger I would shy away from people for a long time I would not talk to papa cause how shy I was. Then papa told me that asking a question could never hurt you. All you can do is try and if the answer is no. No big deal i'll just go and get the apples and come back." Shy smiled lightly and took her arm off Beth and nodded her head in the direction of Bekka."I live down the main street in the travelers lodge which is the first building you see before you enter the town"
Shy slowly stood up and walked over to the front entrance and reached a hand out to open the door to the silver needle but suddenly her hand stopped as she looked back to Beth. "You know you can ask your mother to come with if it makes her feel better. I'm sure my papa wont mind." With that said she slowly pulled the door open for her friend so that she may go and ask her mother if she can go to the lodge.

Beth stiffened slightly as she felt Shy hug her then relaxed a bit. "It's all right. I just haven't left her since we.. since we left."
She rose and followed Shy to the front of the store and frowned slightly looking down the street remembering where the Inn was. "Wellllllll... if mama lets me go I just can't be gone long in case they co..I mean in case she calls me. I have to be back. Can we go fast?"
She stepped inside and called out. "Ma... Shy asked if I can go to her Pa's place near the edge of the shops. It's the Inn near where we came in. I promise I will come right back and will not leave on my own, I promise. Please can I go?" She rushed it out so fast it was almost a single stream of thought.
Bekka bit her lip with her back still to the girl. Alone... away from her sight... what if He came for her? She plastered a smile on her face and turned to see the two girls standing there. Shy, Beth had called her, seemed a little older, or perhaps just more filled in and healthy. Poor Beth seemed small for her age and Bekka blamed herself and the constant running.
"Hi, Shy. Your Pa and you live at the Inn?" Bekka was trying to remember where the Inn was. It was close to the edge of town. It wasn't really THAT far was it?
Shy looked up at Bekka as she was spoken to with respect she owes those older then her. "Yes mam My papa owns the Travelers lodge."
Bekka sighed as Beth's eyes silently pleaded to go. Reluctantly she nodded still smiling though her hand clenched tighter on the piece of material she was holding. "All right, but be home before lunch please. I ... I umm want to go shopping and you can come with me. All right?"
She watched to see their reactions.
Without warning, Beth lunged at her ma and hugged her tightly making Bekka's smile genuine. But before she could respond the girl lept from her and grabbed Shy's hand dragging her out the door. "Thank's ma. We will hurry. I promise!"
Bekka could only watch as they left and the door closed once more behind them.

Shy watched as Beth asked her mother and was more then happy to answer Bekka's question. Shy stood smiling lightly but did not seem to be to suprised on the answer that was given that was only because Shy believed that was exactly what Bekka was going to say. After Bekka had answer Shy bowed politely to the woman as a sign of thanks but before she could even straighten herself back up Beth had already drug her out the door. Shy giggled as she held tight onto her friends hand her feet thundering the same rythym as Beths. Shy smiled as she could see the lodge coming closer and pointed it out to Beth.
When they finally made it to the porch of the lodge Shy marched right up the steps and burst into the front door yelling quiet loudly. "PAPA ARE YOU HERE?" Suddenly a elderly lady came out of the kitchen with a scornfull look on her face that was aimed right at Shy. This old lady then spoke in a harsh tone."Young Girl keep your voice down people are resting. Your papa isnt back yet." The older lady suddenly disappeard back into the kitchen. Shy bit her lip lightly and sighed some shakeing her head and she did this she looked back at Beth and shrugged. "Be careful of her she can be a old wicth sometimes." Shy giggled and walked right into the dinning area and grabed two fresh apples out of a bowl on the table. She carefully held the other one out to Beth. "After we eat the apples I want to show you my room."

Beth smiled as they ran inside and swiftly hid behind Shy as the woman came out and scolded her. Her hands clenched and her body flared hotter a moment on Shy's back then cooled again to normal when the woman left.
Beth nodded as Shy warned about the woman then gasped and trotted after Shy as she plucked two apples fromt he sidebaord in the dining room. "Are you sure we can eat these?" She was gonna ask about them getting into trouble when Shy took a bite of her own and mentioned seeing her room when they were done.
Beth smiled and took a bite of the apple. She couldn't help but smile and laugh as the juice of the apple dripped off her lips to her chin and landed on her shirt front. "This is the best apple I ever had. I mean it." She laughed and they sat on vacant chairs in the empty dining room as they watched people moving down the street outside.
Beth noticed one or two she remembered from the hill outside town the night before. "They must be done with the fire on the hill. I saw that woman up there." She pointed as a small group of people wandered past.
She finished her apple and looked to Shy for where to put the core. "That was good. I hope mama buys apples when we go shopping today. Then I will share with you too and you can see my room." She smiled.

Shy smiled as her friend had apple juice on her shirt. She too sat in a vacant chair stareing out one of the massive windows watching the business of the town go on. Shy quickly devoured her apple and took Beths apple core from her and stood. Looking out the window at the woman Beth had pointed out only brought another smile to Shy. "That is Sybill she is my school teacher. She is very nice but alil nuts." With that Shy walked into the kitchen leaving Beth to sit byherself after a moment Shy returned with two cups of water. She smiled as she handed one cup to Beth while taking a drink of her own. "Ok comon my room is up stairs." Shy walked ahead of Beth leading the way up the stairs. There where beautiful paintings of different lands hanging on the walls and at the very top of the stairs was a massive painting of the owner of the Lodge. The painting was very detailed the man in the painting was tall and well built but was coverd in all black silk wraps and a massive black cloak flowed over his body. The hood was down showing the silk wrapped head but one of the silk wraps where missing it was the wrap that coverd the eyes. The eyes where black no pupil no white of the eyes just darkness. Shy stoped alil past this painting and bent down to tie her shoe but she seemed to pay no attention to the painting at all.

Beth followed Shy up the steps and smiled at the thought of a teacher who was cool but nuts. As she looked at the pictures she thought how cool it would be to see some of them.
Stopping as Shy bent over, she happened to take a moment to look up at the picture of the man clad in black. She backed up and bumped into the stair rail and swallowed trembling slightly. She managed to whisper but there was fear in her voice. "Is he... is he a Hunter?"
She had only seen the Hunters once and while this didn't seem like them, they had ben clad in all black as well. It frightened her that the picture would be in her friend's 'home' but she knew this was a public place. Perhaps there was another reason it hung there.
She scooted along the railing, away from the picture, around Shy. "He looks scary."

Shy finished laceing her shoe up when she heard Beth's voice change drastically. Witha frown Shy looked torwards her new friend who backed up so quickly that she bumped into the railing. Shy then followed her friends gaze to the painting of the man clad in all black. Shy stared at the painting with a slight smile on her face. To her the painting of the man did not look very scary at all but of a figure she looked up to. Shy blinked and looked behind her at Beth who was now quivering in fear. "You shouldnt be afraid Beth that is my papa." Shy walked up to the painting and stood right infront of it looking up at with a soft smile. "He is the one who owns the lodge. I dont know want you mean by a hunter but that is not what he is." Shy looked back at her friend and the smile fated as a sad look took over her face as thoughts of her friend being afraid of her father botherd her. She sighed lightly and walked away from the painting and took a hold of her friends hand gently and led her to the two huge double doors at the end of the Hall. She slowly took ahold of the door handle and turned it lightly giveing a slight push the door swung open.
Inside this massive room would be a couple of nice chairs a huge bed that was coverd in silk black sheets and a large black guilt. Shy looked around and smiled lightly as the slight scent of roses could be smelled in this room. Shy slowly turned and looked back torwards Beth and smiled lightly."This is my papa's room dont touch anything." Off to the right was a huge book shelf that held many ancient books and scrolls. To the left of the book shelf was a massive black chest that sat under a window that had black curtains hanging. To the left of the room where two doors one off to the far right of the room in the back by the other window that door lead to the bathroom. The second door was closer to the front entrance this door lead to Shy's room. The door closes to the entrance was the door Shy headed torwards. "Comone Beth my room is over here." Shy grabed the door handle and pushed the door open there was a good size bed another book shelf and a chest that looked alot like the one in Rance's room but was smaller. Shy had shields and swords hanging on the wall and some wooden swords sitting in a corner. She had no dolls of any kind except for one a teddy bear which was half burned and looked very old sitting on Shy's pillow. "This is my room." Shy smiled brightly as she let her friend take in the sight.

"Your Papa?" Beth whispered in awe and confusion.
As Shy took her hand and led her into the big room she stopped and dropped her grip. The dark man's room smelled of roses. No Hunter would bother with roses. And the room had a good feeling to it. Beth knew when bad things were nearby so this must not be a bad man's room.
She nodded when Shy mentioned not touching anything. "I won't. My Mama wouldn't let me touch anything in the houses we stayed at either. I know how to behave."
Following Shy into her room she gasped at all the weapons then smiled. "I guess no one tries to break into your room huh?" She laughed and looked around as she clasped her hands behind her back. Her own room, before they had to leave, was full of more girly things, but her father had let her have a small wooden sword and shield. He had taught her how to use one fairly well though her Uncle used to best her all the time.
She smiled at the chest. "I bet your Pa made those chests too, didn't he? I can tell cause they look the same and I bet he made it cause he loves you." Beth didn't know Rance wasn't Shy's real father anymore than Shy knew Bekka wasn't Beth's real mom. But to the girls, family is where family loved. "I bet he makes sure no one hurts you, ever, huh?" She laughed looked around at all the weapons.
When she stopped at the ones in the corner she giggled. "My Pa made me a sword once. I couldn't take it when we ra... when we moved. It was too much to carry. I like yours though. It looks better."

Shy watched as Beth circle around her room looking at everything. A big smile crossed her lips as Beth spoke of her father must love her alot and would protect her always. She walked over to the corner and picked up one of the wooden swords and handed it to Beth making sure that she handed the wooden sword handle first even though it is wooden. "Yes he made the chest and yes nothing will ever happen to me as long as he is there." She sat down on her bed and glanced at the teddy. She poked it once in the stomach and then left it alone. "I'm sorry i dont have much toys or girly toys i have never really been into dolls. I either play outside or I learn how to fight from My papa. I also do alot of chores around the lodge too. Papa says its good for me." Shy makes a irtated look with that last statment to show that she doesnt like some of her chores. "You can keep that wooden sword. Think of it as a gift."
Shy got the big grin on her face as she sat back down on the bed but as soon as her lil behind touched the bed she rolled back wards at the same time her hand reached out and pulled another wooden sword out from under the pillow on the bed when the backward rool was over she was on her feet on the other side of the bed with the sword up. "So can you use that." She smirked playfully as she tilted her sword left and right her legs spread apart in a strong stance to keep her self balance and ready. Rance had always taught her to never underestimate your opponet. The hole time she had this gleem in her eye of Joy. Beth could probably tell that Shy likes to fight and rough house all the time. "Just for play" Shy didnt want to hurt her friend and deffiantly didnt want her friend to hurt her or think that Shy wanted to beat her up or somthin. Suddenly Shy bent her knees slightly and jumped up on the bed bringing the sword diagonally down at Beth but not so fast kind of slow as a test swing to see what Beth would do.

Beth laughed as Shy rolled in a back curl over the bed and landed on the other side. Raising her sword to mirror Shy she nodded. "Just for play."
As Shy swung down, Beth brought her sword up to block it then spun around swinging her sword to just above the bed aiming to sweep Shy off her feet. Even if Shy didn't jump swift enough, or block her, she would only endup hitting the side of her boots lightly and not hurting her.
The girls were laughing though anyone who walked in would see two semi trained children who seemed compitent and confident in the weapons they wielded.

Shy giggled as her sword bounced off Beths sword. In between giggles Shy anounced loudly" Well done Beth" but suddenly Shy's eyes narrowed as Beths sword came low to take her legs out. With out hestateing she leaped doing a no handed summersault off the bed Beths sword missing its target. Shy landed once again in a stance her swored pulled behind her pointed downwards. Without another sound Shy lunged forwards extending her right arm which held the sword in a jab torwards Beth's chest.
Meanwhile down stairs Ms. Pikins was cutting up some fruit along with a loaf of bread and some cheese to set out of the guest. All of a sudden a thud was heard above her and she gumbled lightly. "Oh that girl is going to wake the whole town." Ms. Pikins listened for a second and heard no more noise and sighed lightly going back to cutting with her old fragile hands. "I need to give that girl a good talkin to and M'lord Rance as well she should be playing with dolls and helping me in the kitchen not acting like a lil boy."

Beth laughed and then let out an approving "OH WOW" as Shy landed on the floor. As she turned to managed to swing her sword up to block Shy's lunge, but the angle was wrong and the press of Shy's weapon caused her to drop her own leaving her open for another strike. She lept up on the bed and out of the way looking to where her play blade lay on the floor in front of Shy. "Uh oh" she snickered as she crawled backwards grinning like a cat. She felt her feet slip off the other side of the bed and waited to see if Shy would advance or give up.
"It's been a long time and you are better than me. You will have to show me how you held on when I didn't." She laughed as she stuck her tongue out teasing Shy into coming onto the bed with her.

Shy watched as the play sword slid out of her friends hand and landed on the ground at her feet. Shy showed a lil disapointing look on her face as it was starting to get fun. She smiled though as she saw becca's tongue stick out. With her right foot in one quick swoop slid it under the becca's blade and kicked it up so that she could catch it and set it both weapons back against the wall. Shy climbed slowly up on the bed and sat next to her new friend her feet hanging off the edge of the bed. "You mom seemed nervous when you asked to come over. Is she alrigght?" Shy was curious though it was a stupid question they just got to the town and dont know anyone so of course she would be weary. She guessed she was just to use to how nice people are around here to worry much. She has Rance to keep her safe and most people in town seem to watch over eachother like they were all a big family. Even those who dont seem like they would be very careing or nice at all seem to be around when trouble comes.

Beth sat on the floor leaning against the wall looking up at Shy as she tucked her knees to her chest and wrapped her arms around them. After a moment she shrugged. "She is fine. She just doesn't want me to get hurt. So she doesn't let me go places by myself." She looked down and played with a dirt stain on her breeches. "She thinks this place is safe though. For a while anyway... so I guess it doesn't scare her as much if I come here."
She looked back up at Shy and trie to change the subject. "Want to see something neat?" She crawled to her knees and rested her elbows on the bed in front of Shy and closed her hands then opened them and a small whisp of mist formed then shaped into a rose looking like swirling ashes. Then it shifted to a sword the size of her hands, then again into a rose. Each time shifting easier and easier.
"Someone showed me once. I thought you might like it."

Shy watched her new found friend fiddle with her pants while she talked. She could cearly see how nervous she was when she spoke. Shy moved on the bed so that she could lay on her stomach her albows bent palms up under her chin holding her head up. Shy fround as she heard the words for awhile. She sighed lightly as the subject was quickly changed and Beth begin to show more of her magical talents.
There was a twinkle in Shy's eye as she watched the mist dance into different shapes. Magick was one of her favorite things to watch. She smiled brightly hopeing that would make her friend feel better. But in the back of her head she still thought of what she said last. Was there somone after them which caused them to constantly look over there shoulder and not feel comfortable. Shy thought of how strange that would feel. Soon her face started to reaveal what she was thinking. Her eyes seem to look through the magick show and the smile was gone as a small chill ran down her back.

Beth smiled glad she had made her new friend smile. But as she looked back up, Shy had this strange look on her face. Almost as if Beth had done something terribly wrong.
"Shy... what's wrong?" Beth suddenly let the mist fade and bit her lip. "I am sorry. I didn't mean to upset you." She looked around and stood up suddenly looking like a cornered animal.
"Ummm... maybe I should go..." She looked around feeling as if she was missing something.

Shy blinked and snapped out of it when Beth had stood up looking like a trapped animal. She sat up quickly and tried to smile. "No beth your fine you didnt do anything wrong." She shook her head alil getting the chill feeling to go away. "I was only thinking on your recent comments. You stated that you and your mother were safe for awhile and then the metion of hunters. It gave me a strange feeling is all." She slid off the bed alil so that her feet hung off the side of the bed. She smiled lightly at Beth and pated the spot next to her to signal for her to sit down. "I want you to tell me what is chaseing you. These so called hunters." Shy shifted alil as she rememberd Beths statment about her papa looking like one of these so called hunters. "It may make you feel better to let somone know about it instead of bottleing it up inside. Not to metion i would be afraid myself if i knew somthing was after me."

Beth's eyes widened even more as her head shook back and forth as if about to fall off. "I can't. Ma said I can't talk about them. Not to ANYONE." She moved towards the door half whispering. "I should go. Ma will be worried. I shouldn't stay too long. I have to help her with dinner later. And..." She seemed to be making excuses and her voice cracked, "... and I didn't do my chores."
She bit back the tears in her eyes. The Hunters always found them. Everytime Ma tried to tell someone about them, suddenly they appeared. She was scared they would show up again. And this time Shy and her daddy would be the ones hurt cause of her. "I can't talk about them... people get hurt. Ma made me promise..."
She walked to the door and stopped with her hand on the doorknob. "Will you still be my friend?" She whispered not turning around. She didn't have any friends. They never stayed one place long enough and ma never wanted her to talk to anyone. But this town was supposed to be safe. Her question came out almost like a plea. She kept her back to Shy waiting for an answer.

"You dont have to leave Beth." She took a couple of steps forward her right hand twitching alil as she wanted to reach out and touch her friend. She listen to her words of not telling anyone so they will not be in any danger but Shy wasnt shy anymore neither was she scared as Rance was always there for her. Her eyes got big as she heard Beths last question. "Of course I will still be your Friend Beth. I'm sorry i was so nosey but do go." Shy stepped forward again slowly hopeing to stop her from running off. "There is a time when you shouldnt run beth thats what my papa told me."

Rance made his way slowly up the steps of the lodge. Rounding the corner he took his time walking down the hallways. He stopped at a room to the right and opend it slowly. It was one of his vacant rooms. The room smelled great he could tell the maid had done a good job. He stopped though as he could feel a strong power comeing from his private chambers. He could smell the dirt from shy and yet he could also hear another in the room with Shy. He slowly closed the door and made his way down the corridor listening carefully to what was being said in the room.

Beth smiled and nodded as Shy mentioned still being her friend. Her hand opened the door just as Shy mentioned staying though. "I should see if my ma is all right. I never leave her alone."
Worried Shy would see her cry and call her a baby, she suddenly spoke and ran off. Opening the door and keeping her head down she didn't see the large man coming down the hallway. Her head scrashed into his stomach hard and she fell back clambering to keep from falling over as if she had run into a large black wall. "AAAhhhh" Her hands flailed as she tried to get her feet back underself and her backside headed for the carpet.

Rance was about to open the door when he heard feet slamming against the floor as somone was running and quickly at that. Next thing he knew somthing small ran right into him. He frowned as her scream peaiced his ears but through all that noise his trained senses didnt fail him as he could feel and hear her arms flailing through the air. With amazing speed Rance's right arm shot out and got ahold of her left wrist. He gave a small pull to get her back on balance he slowly let go of her wrists and knelt down infront of her." You should be more careful young one." His head tilted slightly as he heard Shy standing at the door. His attention was quickly brought back to the small child" well well your a lil powerhouse arent you. Are you alright can i get you a ice bag for your head maybe somthing cold to drink." He tilted his head in Shy's direction." What is going on here Shy?"

Beth's reaction was to grab the arm with her other hand as she fell and was caught. Once she was on her feet though she looked up at the man in black. Suddenly instinct took over and before she heard Shy mention 'Papa' a shielding f magic surrounded her. The Dragon shield wound around her like mist with a power far beyond what one so young should possess. She backed up and hit the railing and began to shake in fear.
Her soft voice whispered as if both asking and confirming. "A... A Hunter... here... nooooooo." She shook her head and tears fell as her heart felt about to break. They had found them already. And as the man spoke to Shy, she fell on instinct once more and leapt to stand in front of her friend enough to let the shield cover them both. Her right fist balled at her side as she growled low and magic began to focus in that small palm. "Don't you come any closer. I won't let you hurt her."
It never dawned on her this was the man from the wall painting. And all she cared about was protecting Shy. She wouldn't let the Hunters take another friend from her.

Shy smiled as she watched her papa catch her and set her back on her feet. She looked at Rance and was about to answer him when the dragon shield misted its way around Beth. Her eyes got big as beth looked scared out of her mind. Shy was about to speak to beth this time but to her amazement the words where stollen by Beths movments infront of her. Shy could feel the protective warmth of the shield being so close. She slowly raises her hand and placed it lightly on her friends shoulder. "He is my father Beth. He is no hunter and will not hurt you. Please calm down." Her beautiful blue eyes looked back to her father. "I'm sorry papa this is my new friend Beth she is frightend of you." She kept her gentle warm hand on her friends shoulder to reassure her she is not going anywhere.

Rance stood and stepped back as the blue dragon shield surounded the young girl. He could feel the protective shield and it was a very familiar feeling from another Woman. A woman that stole his heart a very long time ago. His headed tilted as Beth stood inbetween him and his daughter. He slowly pulled his hood down to reveal his silk wrapped head. He kept quiet as Shy spoke to the girl. He knew the power Rageing in this young child was not controlled and that was dangerous to his daughter and his lodge. So he did his best not send the child overboard or his lodge would be in peices. He slowly stepped back and pushed himself up againts the wall to give the child room to pass by if she wanted to leave. "I will not stop you or move if you wish to leave." he heard Shy but didnt not say anything yet he just waited for the young girls move next. He hated the idea of putting the child asleep to keep her from destroying herself or anything else at that matter.

Beth listened as Shy spoke and tried to weigh the words against the man she saw before him. As he removed his hood she suddenly remembered why he seemed familiar. It wasn't from the Hunters, it was from the portrait in the hallway.... she recognized the eyes.
She reached up to pat Shy's hand and slowly calmed the shield till it was there on the surface waiting to spring back if needed, but no longer active around her and Shy. She stood her ground though, not quite willing to let Shy be alone with him. At his offer to 'run' she frowned and stood up a little taller. "I will stay with Shy." As if she had any say in the matter.
She trusted Shy and only hoped the man wasn't a Hunter who had been lieing to Shy and using her.
She stood there, soft eyes sizing him up in a way he would only have seen in seasoned warrriors, certainly not in a small young girl.

Syrus allowed Rance to put a bit of distance between themselves, and when he did, Syrus would quickly perform the fire magic needed to lock his door, and take off down the street to the lodge. As he arrived, he stopped and eyed Ed hanging around outside the lodge. Studying him briefly, he could feel the two girls and Rance upstairs in the lodge, and he continued to stare at Ed until such a time as he felt that shield that had been wrought on him before. Surely Beth was not being attacked? He sighed and stormed up through the building to come into place down the hall from Rance, whom was between Syrus and Beth. " Everything all right here? I felt something a little strange... "

As Shy took firm hold of Beth's hand she complied. She felt better knowing it was her Papa and not a Hunter, but the "feel" of him was like the Hunters. He had magic like her.
Suddenly Syrus came bounding up and Beth smiled. "It's all right, Lord Syrus. This is Shy and her Papa. I got scared is all." She bit her lip. "Please don't tell Ma. She won't let me come back here again. I wasn't hurt, honest. And her Papa didn't hurt me, only caught me cause I was running and almost fell. That's all." For some reason she feared the man would tell on her and they would have to move again.
She bit her lip and watched the man as they stood there and wondered how such a good day had gone so wrong so fast. Her fist balled absently from her frustration at wanting normal day and the power began to build there without her even realizing it.

Syrus simply breathed a sigh of relief as he saw them all safe, and only half heard the explanations. As he felt the power grow in Beth, he held out his own hand and opened it wide, pulling new fire out of the air around her own palm, and swirling it around his own fist, until it diminished into non-existance, the process highlighting the energies in her hand. " You must have control, or your mommy will be worried and won't let me show you more tricks! " He exclaimed in the least scary voice possible, and simply looked up to Rance with a smile. He could tell it was going to be a pain getting the rampants powers in this village under control, but perhaps he was just the one to do it. He nodded as Shy made the comment on his mask, and then looked back to Rance, as if to inquire, ' What now? '

"I hope you didnt anger my Papa. He is really nice Beth once you get past the way he looks and dress. He would never hurt a child." Shy leaped over a pot hole and then begin to skip along. " Who was that guy with the mask? He seem to be telling you how to work your magic."

Rance sighed lightly as he listen to the feet of the childern stomp down the stairs and out the door. He couldnt help but start chuckling lightly but that familar shield took his smile away once again. It reminded him so much of somone it made him very curious in who that lil girl was. Rance titled his head in Syrus's direction and sighed lightly again as he moved torwards the steps. "I'm sorry Syrus but I am afraid i'm going to have to cut this short. If you would like you can check out that lodge yourself. I'd start at the library though I believe you would like that."Without another word Rance walked past syrus and back down the steps. His mind was caught up with that young girl and the blue Dragon shield. He made his way through the kitchen and out the back door. He sat in a chiar on the back porch and listen to the stream go by as thoughts of the past came to him. He smiled as he could still here her laughter. He whisperd lightly more talking to himself then anyone else. "I hope you are happy and healthy."

Shy bolted into the lodge and up the stairs all the while shouting"PAPA PAPA WHERE ARE YOU?" She open her fathers bedroom door and ran around in there once she did a circle and didnt see him she sighed deeply. She was afraid that she wouldnt be able to give her friend a ride on a dragon like she promised. She growled as she walked to the window and pulled the curtain back to look at the woods behind the Lodge. She sighed lightly as she tried to think of where he might be. Shy sighed lightly and let her head drop alil and thats when she caught site of her papa sitting on the back porch. She jumped up and took off out of her father's room down the hall down the stairs through the kitchen dodgeing the cooks hand and out the back door. "PAPA PAPA" she ran right up to him and grabed his hand tightly." Pleas papa please i'll do all my chores with out complaining and i'll train extra hard in my sword practices. I'll take a bath every night and i'll make perfect grades. Please can you give me and Beth and her mother a ride in the clouds in your true form." She stared at him with big pleading blue eyes.

Rance's thoughts were interupt as he could hear the cook yelling at Shy who was loudly running through the kitchen. Before Rance could even stand and go find out what was going on Shy had ahold of his hand and was pleading a deal with him. He listen and sighed lightly." Shy i dont know that young girl seem very frighten of me. Who knows what she might do if she finds out i am also a dragon." He took her hand lightly and couldnt help to chuckle to all the promises she was making to him. He though to himself for a moment It would be nice to have no complaining when asked to do her chores. He cleard his throat lightly and noded his head yes."Only if it is alright with her mother and father."

Shy got her big pleading eyes on him even though he couldnt see them. Shy's smile got a whole lot bigger when she saw the nod of his head. She wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tight. "It is fine with her mother papa and meet us at the silver needle in the back where the field is." She squeezed him again then let go. "Thank you papa. I'll see you over there"Without another word she took off as fast as she could. This time she didnt run through the Lodge she ran around it. Back on the path she took off for the silver needle with a big smile on her face all the way. ** Rance « Reply #38 on: February 10, 2007, 08:19:25 pm »
Rance smiled as he hugged her back. "right the silver needle." He listen as she ran off around the house he shouted after her but was sure she didnt hear him. "It will take me alil bit." He sighed lightly as he chuckled again. He tilted his head different dierctions making sure noone was around watching him when he felt noone was near he took off Running at full speed which would be a blur to most. He cleard the stream in one leap and enterd the forest. He ducked low limps and leaped over fallen logs. He breathed in deeply as he passed a old oak tree when he passed it the shadow of the oak tree seem to follow him. Darkness and shadow through the whole foerst beging to follow behind him. Rance growled lightly as he lept into the air and onto a tree limb then leapt again on to another higher tree limp on another tree. He then bent his knee and pushed off that branch as hard as he could. He was sent flying way into the air over the tree tops. As he did this the darkness that was falling behind him caught up with him in mid air and seem to swallow him. Soon this darkness Begin to look like a massive pitch dark cloud that was hanging low over the forest. Any that was near enough could hear a soft purring sound coming from within this Very black cloud. others could see it from Miles away. For the cloud has grown Very large and was hovering not only now over the Forest but over the lodge itself. Suddenly a ear deafening Roar erupted from within the cloud and then came a Massive beautiful Black dragon exploding out of the cloud. A sight it was Its massive leather black wings where spread out so far that just one cast a shadow over the whole lodge. With a flap of both wings caused a gus of wind that would bend old oak trees. Rance flow further and further into the sky. This dragons dierction was changed. He was heading right for the field behind the Silver needle. (continue in silver needle)
