Amberlyn Crighton 02-22-2015, 03:14 PM
Her final year and it was finally over!
Amberlyn straightened her dress as she stepped from her transport and keyed the lock pad. It had been a gift from her dad on her graduation. She had managed to go a full year without anything odd or weird happening around her. Her father told her if she behaved and quit acting out, he would get her the transport for graduation. One year later and here she was, about to leave for Academy. One final dance with her friends and then they would scatter across the galaxy to find their futures. Hers, of course, would be in legal law. Her father was the best lawyer in the province and her mom had once been a great lawyer before settling down to raise her and her older brother Brian. Brian had been working in their dad’s law firm as an intern for almost a year. He was about to make a step up in his career soon, too.
Life was perfect.
The night went as expected. The hotel that let them have their soirée had given them then use of the upper two floors and the rooftop ball room. She had been drinking, like everyone else, and having a grand time. As she felt her head get light, she laughed and ordered a round for her and her three closest friends. Jinny was going to the Academy with Amber, though she was studying to be an accountant. Marlan was heading off to join the Republican Army like his older brother had. His brother had been killed when the Empire attacked Telos. His career had been short, but his honors long. Marlan didn’t care about honors, just picking up where his brother had left off.
Then there was Johno. He and Amber had been on again off again since primary school. She had ended it last summer when she noticed her clumsiness and troubles always seemed fueled by him. At 17, a promised car outweighs some boy she would leave behind anyway. He was heading off world for special technical training. He had wanted to take her along. But her plans on staying behind had merely inflamed his rage. It had taken nearly a month for them to find a comfortable “in between”.
After a couple more rounds, they were all dancing in the spinning lights and all of them were in a cluster in the heated night air. After a while, Amber excused herself from the mob of dancers and stepped out on the terrace. Crystal lights hung from strings across the terrace that surrounded the glass clad ball room. She was leaning on the stone railing looking at the city lights below and relaxing. Closing her eyes she didn’t hear Johno come up behind her. She jumped slightly as he ran his hand over her bare shoulders exposed from her strapless gown. Her wrap had been discarded hours ago.
“We should be together, Amber…” His hand caressed her shoulders and he smiled. “Tell me you are still mine…”
She shrugged off his hand and turned around shaking her head as she stepped back. “No, Johno. We aren’t going to do this again, please. It’s been almost a year. I thought you were past this.” She moved to step around him and return inside. She was happy with her buzz, but he was slowly killing even that pleasure from her.
“No…” he grabbed her arm as she stepped closer. “You needed time, that’s all. I know if I just let you have the year to wrap your head around being with me, you would see it’s meant to be. Even our families think it’s a good idea.” His grip tightened slightly as he spoke.
She whimpered and yanked against his grip. “Please, Johno. My dad doesn’t agree. You know that. Even your parents said us going our separate ways would be best. We have different dreams now. The betrothal was broken legal and fair on both sides. You can marry someone who loves and deserves you!” She whimpered slightly as his grip tightened and she pulled against it.
“NO!” his nails dug into her upper arm and he tugged down forcing her to bend with the pain. “No, Amber. They just said that. Everyone wants us together. You know you want this as much as I do. Just submit. My mother loved my dad eventually. You will love and obey me in time, like her. So, now… tell me you love me. Tell me it was a mistake. That you just wanted to teach me a lesson. That you will be mine now like you should be.” His words dropped to a near growl as he slowly dragged her arm down forcing her lower.
Something inside her went cold and calm. She knew she was supposed to be panicking, but somehow, she couldn’t. This was wrong. She would stop arranged marriages when she became a lawyer. No one should suffer this. As he slowly forced her to her knees, growling at her now to submit and accept him, she lowered her hand and relaxed her body. It wasn't anger, or hatred, it was pity that slowly infused her muscles. Pity for everyone who had endured this and not been able to fight back.
Her right hand slowly swept up a handful of the small stones that covered the rooftop. She knew she was too close to throw them at him, but the thought of slapping his face and rubbing them across his confident, prideful cheek brought a small grin to her lips. “Johno, stop…” Her words were calm, though her mind was screaming suddenly to be free of him.
He paused just as her knees hit the gravel. “So you will submit? You will be mine, Amber, just as we always wanted and knew we should be?” His leer sent her over the edge of the precipice she had been teetering on.
Suddenly, several things happened at once. And no one, when questioned later, was able to give an accurate account of the order.
Amberlyn rose suddenly and swung her right hand towards Johno’s face. She assumed some of the stones came loose from her hands because several glass windows nearby shattered as if struck. Her left arm jerked, meaning to free itself from her assailant’s grasp, but it jerked him past her to leave him between her and the small stone wall at the edge of the rooftop.
His face managed to register shock as Amber, several feet from him now, shook her head and whispered, “NEVER!!!”
Johno stepped backwards and tripped on the edging planters and fell over the side of the building.
As Amber feinted, her last thought as she watched her arm stretch out across the ground was that she still was holding the stones.
***
Amber woke up as the sun splashed across her bed. Sitting up, she frowned. She was in one of her father’s corporate flats in the city. One of the myriad of apartments the law firm kept for visiting clients and special guests. Her father would sometimes stay in one if working a grueling case, to keep from being distracted at home.
Getting up and padding barefoot into the living room, her nightgown lightly brushing against her thighs, she stopped in the living room where there was a note with her name sitting next to the vid player. She pushed play and watched a holo of her father appear.
“You couldn’t control it, could you, Amber? I thought these little temper tantrum episodes were over.”
Amber sat down suddenly on the nearby chair as her legs began to give out on her. Tantrum? Johno had assaulted her! And her father was calling her escape ‘a tantrum’.
“Johno’s parents saw the damage to your arm and are willing to cover the medical costs. I will make sure they pay through the nose for all of it. It seems everyone agreed you were nowhere near him when he fell, so no charges are being brought to me. And the hotel was caught serving minors, lower classmen who had gotten in, so they aren’t pressing charges for damages.” He was raving like this had all been her fault and she should be lucky she wasn’t in jail. “You are to stay in the apartment till I come for you. Don’t try to leave! I have rest the alarm system. You are lucky, young lady. I think perhaps you need time to calm down and learn to control these fits of yours.”
She felt tears sting her eyes and wished she could make him understand it wasn't her fault. She hadn't wanted Johno dead, just away from her and anyone he would try and hurt again. How could he keep her prisoner like this? And for how long?
“And don’t worry, I have already spoken to the Academy. They are very understanding that you will be delayed in beginning courses there. They know the death of your betrothed couldn’t be an easy thing on you.”
Death of her betrothed? Delayed in starting classes? This had to be a nightmare!
“Your mother only knows you were in an argument with the Delano boy and that when you spurned him once more, he jumped to his death. I won’t tell her any different. And neither will you. I will see you soon. Food and necessities are there. I will come for you in a couple days. Maybe after cooling off you will see the reason in going to a place where they can help you with this … this outburst problem you have.” The vid suddenly went blank.
No ‘I love you’, no ‘it will be ok’, no ‘I understand, see you tonight’. No nothing… just a lecture she didn’t deserve and a cage with a view. She picked up the remote and flipped to a local news station. They were showing the blasted windows and saying a lovers quarrel had gotten out of hand causing the damage and that the young man, unnamed but belonging to a prominent local family, had jumped, heartbroken, to his death.
She flipped the tv off, pulled her legs up and wrapped her arms around them. Slowly rocking back and forth, she rested her forehead on her knees and made plans. No one would ever suffer like this again, if she had her say. She wasn't a bad person. Why did bad things always happen when she tried to make them see they were wrong?

Perched atop the rim of a neighboring rooftop, Lone Star watched the target apartment whose location posed a problem for most who didn't have command of the Force, but the long drop had given the Corellian born mechanic a moment of pause. Had he not been totally out of his mind or trained in the Force, the Dark Jedi wouldn't have bothered tracking the girl down in the first place. Crouched like a gargoyle, his chrome-like prosthetic arm gleaming in the morning sun, he watched and waited. Soon, she arose from her bed and he watched as the accused moved into the living room, then perched on the couch. He could feel her pain and frustration, even from here as the wind tossed his longer, brown hair, sometimes across the darker red goggles he wore and black mask.
Once she began crying was when the trained Force user made his move, knowing he couldn't leave her here like this. Rising, he turned and dropped off of the raised metal rail and boots crunched across the roof, passed large industrial air recirculators to a spot opposite where he had just been watching. Spinning, he soaked in the Force, calling upon it mentally just as Jacob had taught him and prepared himself. Seeing the successful Leap before performing it, then Sprinted across the permacrete surfaced roof, building speed until reaching the rail, then one boot atop it catapulted the black clad Force user across the chasm, twenty floors up. Keeping himself aloft using the Force, his momentum allowed him to land on the patio, slowing his descent using the same technique. Glad that he had actually made it, he sighed with relief and moved toward the sliding transparisteel door.
Reaching into the room and to the lone occupant, he mentally touched the girl and felt her pain from being accused of something that she didn't totally understand. ~ I know what it's like. Feeling all alone and without anyone to help. But, your display the other night proved that you're special in more ways than one. That jerk deserved what he got, so don't blame yourself. ~

Amber looked up as she heard a voice in her head. Turning around she wondered who had spoken. Out loud she responded. “I didn’t mean to kill him. But he wouldn’t stop!” She thought she was being tested again. Daddy was great with games like that this past year. He would do something on purpose to see if she would lose control. She never had… till last night.
Dark hair, tousled from sleeping and still tangled with the silver rope from her outfit the night before dangled in her face. She reached deft hands up to untangle the cord and toss it to the table. With one hand she swiftly knotted what was left and straightened up. “It was an accident. I…” What was she supposed to say? What would get her out of this mess and out of the cell she was in.
Even gilded cages were cages. Still turning this way and that, moving from room to room, she hunted for the speakers and the cameras she knew her father was judging her from. “Dad, please… let me go home. I promise it won’t happen again.” It was a hollow promise because she knew she couldn’t keep it. But she wanted to believe it… wanted to be normal… wanted to live her life like she wanted to.

Remaining outside on the patio, the curtains veiling his presence, he grinned to himself as she searched the condo for him and thought it was her father. ~ You and I both know this wasn't a coincidence and I'm not your father. ~ Knocking on the glass door, he stepped back knowing how imposing he would appear to the already frightened girl. He had been in this place of uncertainty himself, though not as frightened as she appeared to be.
Mentally tracking her movement through the empty, lavishly appointed home, the dark jedi knew this was going to take a lot of convincing and hoped that his own story might sway her to follow him back to Ruusan. That was the hope anyway. Jacob had been convincing when Torgeir was broken and lost, so his own beginning wasn't totally off point.

When he spoke to her mind again, and said he wasn’t her father, she frowned. *Then who are you?* She whispered back to him. It was clear, barely, but feint without Force training to project it louder and more clearly.
As she heard him tap the balcony glass, she pursed her lips and furrowed her brow. How would someone get this high up and what would they be doing out there?
Still in her knee length, sleeveless night gown, conservative but still showing well-toned dancer legs, arms, and bare feet, she padded over and pulled back the curtain. As she saw the dark figure on the balcony, a small noise was quickly bitten off. Something between a growl and a squeal was quickly silenced. “Who are you? And what do you want?”
Her sleep tasseled hair framed her face like a black halo and her eyes were wide in both fear and confusion. Her mind wasn’t scared like it should be, though she didn’t notice. Confusion was the most prevalent emotion that rolled off her. She tilted her head and tried to stand a bit taller as false bravado filled her. She had promised herself she wouldn’t be hurt again. No point in making a liar of herself on the first day.

Grinning beneath the mask, Torgeir's veiled eyes took in the beauty before him. ~ Lone Star. I'm here to help you get out of this mess, so don't be afraid. Had I wanted to enter this place, I wouldn't have had to knock. Your gift with the Force is what saved you last night. I can feel it flowing through you now,~ he explained. Keeping his distance from the glass door, he remained in his neutral stance realizing she wasn't totally sold yet.
~ I'm part of a private family that helps people like you and I find our way in life. I was recruited not that long ago, actually, after losing my girlfriend and my job. Having nowhere to go and no one to answer the same questions you've had roiling through your mind all morning. ~

Amber listened to the man as he spoke. Something in her reached towards him and she almost felt him, like heat when too close to a burning fire. How would he know the questions in her mind? She had killed someone! How do you recover from that?
Crossing her arms, realizing suddenly that she was half dressed, she bit her lip. There was a part of her that somehow knew he was telling the truth. Unfortunately, the louder part was scared out of her mind. Hiding behind her fear, she shook her head and waved a hand towards the door latch before crossing her arms again. “I can’t let you in. The alarms were reset and I don’t have the code for them.” It was true, she didn’t. So she wasn’t lying.
As she looked him up and down, her eyes came to rest on his. Looking into them as he spoke of losing his gf, she thought of last night and didn’t realize he would hear her. *I lost Johno. Not the same, but I am sure he hurts from it to. I hope it wasn’t his fault.* She couldn’t look away. Something in her was drowning her fears and doubts enough that she wanted to let him in. She clenched her hands where they were crossed and was both glad and upset at the alarm.

Torgeir 02-24-2015, 07:07 PM
Continuing to speak to her mentally, the neophyte heard all her surface thoughts as clearly as if spoken, so he canted his head to the side slightly, wondering now if this Johno was the one that died. ~ He the one that leaped over the rail last night? ~ Curious now as to how to get her out of the apartment if she did want to come with him, he knew that there were other ways, but she had to be wanting to come with him first.
~ You ever display anything like that before? ~ Knowing that his own case included deja vu and having feelings about certain people or moments in his life had led him to think that something else was going on. Something beyond natural things that he had seen or been described before. ~ Dreams that came true? A feeling before something bad happened, or felt a loved one in danger or get hurt? ~
**
Amberlyn 02-24-2015, 07:17 PM
As he spoke of those things, her mind swam and she dropped her hands nodding. "Yes... I mean... Johno was the one who died last night. I swear I pushed him, I mean, I had wanted to push him away, not kill him. But everyone said I was too far away. So he had to have jumped... right?" Suddenly she was pacing the small space in front of the glass as the other things in her past came to the front of her mind.
"I told Jilly one night not to go out. It turns out the place she was going to had an out of control speeder slam into it. Lots of folks were killed. And I've seen things, just before they happen. Like being able to catch something as it falls though I shouldn't have." She shook her head as belief and disbelief warred in her. "I've also reached for things and knocked them over. Though I know I never touched them. And the glass last night, exploding... and," she paused in her pacing and looked at him. "And I've seemed to instinctively know who was at the door, or what was in a box even before I opened it...." A myriad of little things over 18 years started flashing through her mind.
As realization dawned on her, her face settled into an almost eery calm. There was still fear and anxiety in her eyes, but her mind was starting to connect the dots. "I wasn't imagining it? Was I? It's not temper tantrums that make me so mad I can't recall, is it? This is something more?" Her hand was resting on the slide handle. She still didn't have the access codes, but her mind began to whisper to her that if she got dressed, surely she could get down the same way this man had come up.
She could go with him before security bots ever figured out what happened.

~ The Force is a touch to the universe that's only found in a select few. Some use that gift for themselves, others debate whether to use it at all, even when there's people that need them to act. We dispense justice when and where it's needed, then disappear and let those better qualified to take over for the tyrant that we just smoked. You've been chosen and you're not going to learn how to use that gift by sitting around sulking. I can take you with me and help you discover the amazing things that you're capable of. ~ As she neared the door, he moved toward it as well, black gloved hand toward the handle.
~ If you want to come with me, then we're going to have to meet in the parking garage on the lower floor. You're not going to survive the jump, so. Should I expect you, or just leave? ~
**
Amberlyn 02-24-2015, 07:44 PM
Her mind reeled. This wasn't a psychosis or temper tantrum. She knew it wasn't but having the reaffirmation was indeed a boost. When he spoke of being able to help those in need then let others take over, it seemed what she had wanted to do through the legal system. But if she could help in more ways...
*Yes, I'll be there.* Her mind responded half a second before her lips echoed it out loud. "I will meet you there. I need to change and pack. How long do I have and what should I bring?" If she was leaving for a little while, that was fine.
But if she was leaving for good... her mind felt his there, lingering like a supportive hand... suddenly it didn't matter either.

~ Bring whatever you want, you may be gone for a long while. Training alone can take months, so. ~ He was happy that she had chosen to come with him, now all he needed to do was ensure that no one stopped her from leaving, though that could also be a little test of it's own. ~ I'll wait here, so whenever you're ready, I'll meet you down below and wait for you to get there. ~
Stepping away from the glass door, he turned toward the rail and began assessing the potential obstacles for going straight down this time, instead of Leaping back across to the building he had been watching from, though he would also have to lose his persona so he didn't attract too much attention. Police may be called as well as she left here, unless there was some way for her to assure the dispatcher that nothing was wrong. But, that was up to Amberlyn.
**
Amberlyn 02-24-2015, 08:12 PM
She almost screamed as he just leapt off the balcony. Surely there was a rope she hadn't seen or something. Her forehead almost slammed into the glass as hands reached up to brace herself, trying to peer over the edge. But between the glass and the length of the balcony, it was futile. Though reflexes made her do it anyway.
Not thinking about him still listening to her thoughts, she ran across the pristine carpet like the suite was on fire. Going to the closet she grabbed out jeans and a sweater and a tshirt. Quickly tossing the nightgown aside, she dressed and grabbed a hair tie from the bathroom. Her tangled hair was swiftly out of her face.
Looking in the bottom of the closet she found a pair of lace up calf height boots she had used for riding earlier that year. They heel was enough to keep her foot from slipping on whatever she perched on, but low enough she could easily run in them.
Glancing quickly around, she grabbed her backpack and some personal items from the bathroom, another quick change of clothes and a set of work out clothes she could get dirty in. Other than dress shoes, she didn't have any training worthy foot wear in the apartment. Shrugging it off she then realized there wasn't much else here she needed to take. It was time to make her own life.
Less than fifteen minutes later, Amber walked sedately back into the livingroom and bit her lip trying to think of how she would get out of the apartment. Going to the buzzer, she buzzed the maid. "Lina... Lina, it's Amberlyn. Are you there?"
A second later a young woman's voice came back over the comm. "Yes, Ma'am. I am here. What can I do for you? You father said you were staying for the week?"
Figures, her father would have plans to leave her here more than a day or two. "Yes, but I am out of towels. I made a mess in the bathroom and need help cleaning it up. Can you come help me, please? I don't mean to be a bother." She smiled and tried to think of how to get out once the girl arrived.
Setting her bag on the nearby chair and stuffing a coffee table magazine in the top to hide her clothes, she was standing at the door as Lina keyed in the password and opened it. "Oh thank you. Leave the cart there. I don't want daddy to see the wheel marks on the carpet if he comes this evening. You know how he hates when I am a klutz." She smiled and grabbed one of the trash cans to prop the door open with.
A few moments later, Lina was laying on the bathroom floor from the sedative shot Amber had given her. Her father had given them to her often enough she knew the girl wouldn't have time to react. Making sure she was comfortable with a towel under her head, Amber grabbed her bag, closed the door and wheeled the cart to the end of the hall. She didn't realize in her rush to shove the cart a couple feet, it had gone more than half the length of the hallway because of the Force Push she had used in her panic to escape.
Taking the back stair to the garage, she had to pass the guard table. "Hi Mr. Robinson. I know Daddy said I was staying for the week, but he gave me," she glanced at the chrono readout on his video screen, "wow, I only have thirty min to run next door to the store and get a treat for myself. Then he's going to reset the alarms again and I am stuck. Can you let me back in when I come running?" She laughed and flirted with him knowing his habit of watching her derriere when she went by.
"Of course, Ms Crighton. But hurry. You know I don't want you in trouble if you miss that reset." He smiled and was rewarded with a flick of her hair and a wriggle of her fanny as she departed out the doors.
"Thanks.. you are a Jedi at heart, Mr. Robinson." She ran thru the door as he buzzed her out and took off at a run through the parking garage.
Gritting her teeth and hoping he would hear her, she used Force Telepathy without realizing it and reached for his mind. Her words were clear and concise though a bit untrained and loud. *Lone Star... where are you? I'm here....* She only hoped he was still waiting after thirty minutes.

Torgeir 02-27-2015, 08:00 PM
Watching through the Force as she made her way out of the garage entrance, Torgeir perched on the rail just beyond an expensive SUV, the speeder probably costing the owner a pretty cred. Hearing her then make her way toward her vehicle, he hopped down between the two vehicles and stepped out, motioning for her to join him. His mask and goggles now packed away, the mechanic's intense gaze glanced beyond her, then back as Amberlyn approached.
"We need to go," he stressed, then scanned the other vehicles parked around them and within the covered garage. "Which one's yours?" Keeping his senses alert, Torgeir relied on the Force to warn him of any danger and hoped that whatever she had done to escape the apartment would at least give them some time to get to the starport and escape.

Amber frowned a moment till she saw his eyes. Those she would never forget for as long as she lived. Which wouldn't be long if her father or his guards caught them. "That one." She pointed to after looking around for a minute. She hadn't thought it would be here, but not having it here probably would have raised questions since she never went anywhere without it.
She ran to it and quickly tapped the code to unlock it. "Do you want to drive or should I?" It wasn't too flashy for a first vehicle. But it was just enough that it screamed 'Daddy's Girl' to anyone who didn't have what she had. She tossed her bag in the back seat and looked at him expectantly. She didn't know where they were going, but he may not want to draw attention. Johno was the only one who had driven before, maybe it would be good for folks to see her with 'another man'. A small giggle started to escape at the thought and she bit it back quickly.
Not realizing it, her mind used Force Telepathy again. And this time, in her panic to be gone, it was much more clear and concise to his mind. *Please, say you will drive... I don't know where to go.*
**
Torgeir 02-28-2015, 07:17 AM
Hearing her surface thoughts as she attempted to speak to him telepathically, he grinned and moved to the driver's side and slid in. The racy model was definitely something that he pictured her driving, being a rich man's daughter. Taking the keys, he turned over the ignition and reversed from the parking lot, heading now toward the exit. Waving casually at the guard at within the small guard station, he drove from the shadow of the garage and out into traffic.
"Starport, I have a ship waiting," he finally informed. "Your attempt at telepathy was an interesting one, but once you're accepted, I'm sure your master will help you with that. The only reason I was able to converse with you was because I was already touching your mind." Glancing to her as they cruised through the city, Torgeir smiled. The light scent of perfume and clean interior made him instantly jealous knowing that he had never been with a rich girl before. Corellia had kept him in his own circle, so he became comfortable with that. He also knew that she was going to have a thousand questions and prepared himself knowing they had a few miles to go before reaching the starport. Hopefully without police pursuit.

Amberlyn 02-28-2015, 04:30 PM
Amber bit her lip and smiled in thanks as he slid behind the wheel. But when he spoke of her telepathy, she shook her head and gave a small nervous smile. “I didn’t realize you heard me. It was more like wishful thinking.” But the thought that she could speak to someone mind to mind all the time, and that it wasn’t something unique to him, made her keep that half smile as she looked out the window. “My Master? Oh, you mean whoever trains me. I’d like that. Would you be the one training me?”
They hadn’t gone very far when the comm in the vehicle started chirping. “Oh, no… it’s my dad!” It hadn’t dawned on her he would have her vehicle monitored. “Should I ….” She had been about to ask if she should answer it when she slammed her fingers into dash and then suddenly put on a shining smile that, had he looked, hadn’t reached her eyes. She was mad, but her smile made her voice a bit steadier.
“Amberlyn Elizabeth! Where do you think you are going?” He was mad. She could almost see him pacing his office now.
“You are right, Daddy.” She bit her lip as the lie fell from them. “I need help. I am going to get it.” That much wasn’t a lie… what came next, was. “I am going to tell the gang that Johno’s death affected me worse than I thought and that I am going on a vacation this semester. They will understand. I will meet you at the Facility this afternoon. Please… let me at least say my good byes.” She unconsciously twisted her fingers as she wrung them together in her lap and waited his answer.
“Two hours, young lady. Then I want you here at my office. We will go together. Do you understand? I am proud of you. But I will not let the sneaking about go unpunished.” Her father had paused in his pacing. He was waiting on her reply.
She glanced at her escort as it to get some support. Without looking back at the comm, she sat just a bit straighter and nodded. “Yes, Daddy… I will go get help where there are people who know how to handle me.” She didn’t lie. Her last words to her father wouldn’t weigh on her mind. Keying off the comm before she would hear anything else, she leaned back in her seat and fell into silence. Her mind reeling with what she had done. She hadn’t said she would meet her father, so that wasn’t a lie. She said she was going to get help, so that wasn’t a lie either. She glanced out of the corner of her eyes towards the man sitting beside her.
It was all worth it as long as what had just happened hadn’t ruined her chances.
After several seconds she murmured softly, "We have about two hours..."

Torgeir 03-05-2015, 07:42 AM
"More than enough time to get to the starport and offworld," he stated, then motioned with an upraised chin. "Let's get out of here." He grinned to himself, knowing that some would think this a romantic adventure, but it was anything but. The life that he was leading her to was a dangerous one. Her father seemed quite the control freak and didn't endear himself to the Corellian mechanic at all.
As they continued on through the city, he prepared himself for the trip to Ruusan. "This trip'll take a few days, so hope you don't mind space travel," steel-blue eyes turned to her as they glided through traffic, nearing the main entrance to the large starport. "Though you've probably done that quite a bit, I imagine."

Caught for a moment in his gaze, she felt her cheeks redden. She almost felt there was something behind those eyes she could reach out and touch. Something more tangent and more powerful than the mere face that peered at her.
Amber looked down at her hands then out the window suddenly feeling very vulnerable... and foolish. "I'll be fine." She murmured as he spoke of the trip taking a few days. When he mentioned she had done quite a bit of travelling, she looked back up at him.
Dark eyes held his gaze once more as she shook her head. "Actually no... Daddy wouldn't take me on his trips. He and mom went all kinds of places. But I was left here. They said I would embarrass then if I misbehaved." She felt her fists ball and heat filled her body. She shook herself and flexed her fingers unaware that for a moment she had been calling power to herself. "I just wish people didn't just assume they knew what was happening. Especially when they had no idea at all."
Hoping he wouldn't think she was meaning him, she quickly added, "I don't mean you. I meant my parents. They assumed I was having fits or temper tantrums. It never occurred to them it could be something different entirely."

"Makes me wonder then if one of them had the Force and was afraid of it, knowing that you had this gift as well," he stated matter-of-factly. His own mother was gifted with being able to discern dreams and he thought it was just a woman thing, but know he knew better. "People fear what they don't understand and soon you'll be at a place where they do." He grinned at the thoughts of all he had been through this past year and all that he had learned since meeting Jacob.
Soon, they arrived at the entrance to the starport and continued on to the parking garage, then found a spot. Pushing himself from the vehicle, Torgeir closed the door and kept his awareness of their surroundings open as she joined him. Walking toward the turbolift, he noticed families and businessmen all heading to their own speeders, no doubt having just returned from a trip. Stepping inside, he nodded to an older man waiting to continue on to the main hub. With a push of a button, the doors closed and the sudden inertia of movement downward stopped nearly as abruptly as it began.
Echoing in the high ceilings, the bustle of people and occasional voice over the com had become the norm for his life since joining the Penumbra and now he was drawing another into that life. Once through the security station, he led Amberlyn down the long concourse toward his borrowed ship. "From this point on, you'll be able to travel the galaxy, see places that you've only seen in holovids. We travel a lot actually."

Amber nodded as he mentioned it being a possible fear factor that had caused her family's reaction. "I hadn't thought about it. But since it seemed so harsh, perhaps in hindsight it is a possibility." As they stepped into the lift, she moved a bit closer to him, though restrained her hands by clutching her back tighter to keep from reflexively grabbing his arm as more people pressed around them.
As they exited and he lead them away from the crowd and towards a launch bay, she smiled. "I can't even imagine the thought of leaving here, still." She laughed nervously. "I certainly can't imagine travelling the galaxy." Though she did quickly add with a smile and a wink teasing him. "But I can sure have fun finding out, right?" She bit her lip... this was it. She was finally leaving. And had someone asked her a few moments ago how that would have made her feel, on the verge of disappearing into the expanse of the dark galactic void., she would have thought she would pause in her steps and second guess herself...
But as they got closer, she found herself a taunt line of anticipation. Her mind reaching out without realizing it as she thought of her life from this point on, *I will never be able to repay him for rescuing me.*
