Llewel stepped into the barracks and set her duffle down. It was barely half full and missing several key pieces. The seasonal uniform she had on now was the most complete. Other than that and a pair of coveralls and part of another dress uniform, the bag barely contained much else. Her minded added new uniform replacements to the mental list of things she needed to do in the coming days.
She had never been assigned a space before she left, so it wasn't as if she could simply go back to it now.
Looking around she tried to find someone of rank, or at least knowledge, who could lead her to a room or bunk. She was willing to do either. Her first mission had been on a ship, and therefore cramped. And her second mission... well, she admitted to herself, she had worse.
Taking off her cover she glanced around. Everyone seemed to be mingling as if long time friends. She hoped to be part of that soon. She had been solo enough recently to last her a life time.

Leaving the armory, Cabrin left his most trusted partner that he had as the favorite pistol was now locked up for not only his security, but everyone else's. Mulling over the last mission that he had been a part of, the soldier meandered through the maze of halls in the barracks and soon walked into the bays, sets of doors on either side of the main hallway, each home to a platoon sized group. Most having the chance to get to know their fellow soldiers better, he liked the comradery that had developed between them as well as with the agent that had helped him not that long ago.
Entering the bay where his own bed resided, he noticed a newly arrived female whose demeanor caught his attention right away. The other three in her cell out on maneuvers or training, she appeared as lost as he was when he first arrived. Stepping toward the entryway to the cozy interior that sported two bunks on either side and two desks on the far wall, one open and revealing someone's holovid and stack of movies. "Hey," he grinned politely, her attractiveness grabbing his attention immediately, though he did his best to hide it.
"I know this place can get rowdy in the evenings, but these guys are harmless," he smiled, motioning back to the rest of the bay. "Name's Cabrin Versailles."

Llewel felt him behind her before she saw him. Turning around as the voice called to her, she smiled and nodded. "I'm glad. Would be concerned if steam wasn't let off at all." She nodded as he introduced himself. "Llewel, Llewel Pindragin. A pleasure."
She looked at the room that would be hers than into the common room behind them. "Perhaps you can answer a couple questions for me." She laughed lightly and turned to face Cabrin. "Where do I check in to get my assignment, what do you all do for fun," and she brightened with mirth as the last query came out and she laughed slightly. "And where can someone find something to eat? I'm starving!"
She hadn't eaten since her meal on the morning shuttle and between her interview, gear assignment and location indoc, she realized it was late afternoon and her stomach was starting to protest being ignored.

Chuckling, he nodded at her introduction and recognized the name if not the face, but that was solved now as she began asking a variety of questions which he was more than happy to answer. "Assignments will be assigned by your squad leader and as far as fun," he glanced down the central aisle that conjoined all the cells, "Just about anything." Blue eyes returned to her, "The Enlisted Club is also not far from here. It's also got a kitchen with an autochef if you want a different place to eat other than the Day Room here which also has machines and an autochef. I sometimes miss getting to the Mess Hall when they're open, so I'll head there to grab something. Up to you really," he glanced at his chronometer. "In fact, dinner's in about an hour, so if you wanted me to show you to the Day Room and grab something, we can or we can head over to the Enlisted's."
Seemingly a bit older than her, he suddenly became protective of the cadet knowing how eager most of the others were going to be to get to know her. Those away from home for the first time and with some free time, she was going to become popular if she wasn't careful. But, he had a feeling that she may be more than capable of taking care of herself, and if she wasn't, she would learn quick.

Smiling at Cabrin, the dark haired woman laughed. "Well at least I won't starve when not in the field."
Looking down towards the day room she then checked the chrono she saw in her room. "I'd say if you can spare me a few min to stash my gear, the Enlisted would be great. At this point, anything but shuttle food sounds appealing." She hoped his answer would be yes, because she swiftly stepped into her room, discovered the empty locker and expertly began stashing her gear. She was raised in an orderly house, and despite what originally would appear as haphazard moves quickly eluded to uniforms and personal items instantly becoming an organized symphony.
Shirts were hung in order of necessity, dress uniforms moved to the back so they weren't constantly brushed against. Slacks were the same way. Tshirts refolded and neatly stacked, and everything else was falling into place like a well known puzzle.

Following her into the cell, he noted the other three bunks and the inset shelves on the wall, filled with personal things and small holopics of family or girlfriends back home. Very much like his in fact. "I've had to survive on MRE's in the field, so yeah, I know what you mean. Though, to be honest, they're not that bad," he stated and then watched as she organized her things in the locker. Still having the habit of separating each hangar equally from the outer walls, just like was taught in Basic. Grinning, he knew that habit would die eventually.
"So, you a grunt or specialist," he queried as they prepared to leave. The platoon had every spot filled by someone and he hadn't seen her whole file yet either. As they talked, he led her from the berthing area and out into the main hallway, then right as he led her toward the Day Room.

Once her stuff was righted to her satisfaction, for now, she turned and followed Cabrin as he lead her down the halls. "A bit of both, I guess." She laughed. "Grunt for now. But I want to be a sniper." She laughed as she remembered her interview. "I actually told my interviewer I joined because the military was a better place to learn shooting than just picking up weapon and randomly firing it in public. I am sure that will end up on my eval and psych exam first chance they get."
It seemed funny to her, but her humor was warped. She just hoped, a little too late to recant her thoughts, that he found at least a bit of humor in it. Suddenly she was stammering an apology as if she had already offended him. "I mean, I would never just shoot into a crowd. That's why I joined. I mean, I'm not crazy, just..." She bit her lip and growled. "Sorry... sometimes I don't always think before I speak. Guess I better work on that while I'm here, too." She turned her head away from him and concentrated on the hallway and path they were taking. She could almost hear everyone laughing now and her nickname being 'killer'. She sighed.

He chuckled as they passed a quartet of Special Forces operators, glancing at the new girl momentarily. "Nah, you'll fit right in actually. Sometimes, after you've seen combat, you get a warped sense of humor, so I wouldn't worry about it too much. You've just got a head start, that's all," he opened the door to the Day Room, the large interior full of various distractions and a long counter on the far wall, two autochefs near the sink along with a large refrigeration unit.
Passing one of the billiard tables, Cabrin motioned to the autochefs. "Voila." Motioning to the far right, beyond the holoprojector now playing an adventure vid, to a door. "In there's a library if you like to read." As she surveyed the surroundings, he prepared to continue on to the Enlisted Club.
"Hey Versace, who's the newbie," one of the younger sergeants smiled.
Shaking his head at the soldier who loved torturing his last name, "Pindragin, going to be a sniper." Motioning to the curious one, "This is one of the platoon's sergeants, Redbud," he tried not to laugh, having his own nickname that had stuck and gained a few chuckles from others in the room.
"Well, if she can shoot, good to have ya'."

Llewel laughed and nodded. Lifting her chin a bit to enhance the smile without getting smug, she spoke to the Sergeant. “Then you will be very glad to have me, Sergeant. But honestly, it’s good to be here and be given a chance.”
She nodded to Cabrin to lead on. This room was definitely one she would frequent. You could learn a lot about people from just watching them. This room, perhaps more than any other classroom or field drill, would teach her the most about her fellow soldiers.
“Nice to know it’s not as cut throat in the barracks as I am sure it will be in the classroom or field.” She laughed remembering stories her brothers had told when home on leave. Sometimes they groaned when she spoke of dreams to follow them. She would make sure they knew their training and guidance of her hadn’t been a waste of time.
She wasn’t going to be some home body, popping out kids, cooking dinner and crying when her husband didn’t come home from some assignment. Nope, not her. She had to be out here, doing it… not wondering what was being done.

"Competitive, but in a team spirit," he nodded, leading her back out through the door and into the main hallway once again. "I've been with several smaller units back home before joining the New Republic. Got talked into it by a dear friend of mine who works for the government and have met a lot of great people since I arrived." Pushing the door outward to the exterior of the building, the lieutenant out of uniform walked over toward his speeder, clicking the unlock button from his keyring. "Get in."
Moving to the driver's side, he slid into the newly refinished seat and started up the vehicle. Turning down the music, a local classic rock station that he had found, he glanced to her as the windows went down and let in the cooler air. "Club's a little way from here, so." Settling in, he backed out and drove through the parking lot and then out onto the main street, turning left. "Range isn't far from here either," he motioned passed the motor pool whose large repair buildings barred the view to the flightline.
"This place can get a little noisy at night, but in our cell you'd be amazed how quiet it gets. Nowhere near as bad as it could be, that's for sure." Rumble of LAAT's and freighters taking off or landing seemed a constant, barely masked by the buildings that separated them.

She was glad to see they were allowed vehicles. She had a small cycle at home, but hadn’t brought it because she was unsure on regs for cadets and personal transport. Oddly, she had never asked her brothers about that small detail.
As he mentioned being coerced by a friend, she laughed. “I hope your friend didn’t abandon you once you were here..” As she slid into the passenger’s seat she smiled. “Nice ride.”

Haven’t shot in almost a moon. Starting to suffer withdrawals.” She laughed not realizing she was relaxing quicker than she told herself she would. There was something about him that put her at ease. He reminded her of her brothers.
She frowned for a half second and corrected her mental comparative. He has the demeanor and easy going attitude of my brothers, but he is definitely not my brother. That made her smile again as she rested her elbow on the open window and relaxed a bit more into the cushion.

"No, I get to see her once in a great while, though she stays busy especially with a war going on," he informed as the sight of a large container ship being unloaded peeked from between two hangars, the massive ship an amazing feat of naval architecture. He chuckled at her desire to get to the range, "I can schedule you some time at the range if you wanted. I go at least once a week when we're in garrison." Passing a major intersection, he continued on and turned into the parking lot of the Enlisted's Club and found an empty spot.
"Not too far to walk, but figured if you were hungry," he grinned and turned off the ignition, then pushed the door open and stepped out. Closing it behind him, he motioned to the speeder, "I have a daughter that's managing our salvaging business right now and I get lucky sometimes. Friend of mine there is a great mechanic," he stated, then opened the door for her.

As he mentioned being able to schedule training time at the range, she nodded enthusiastically. “I’d like that. Thank you. I imagine in a few weeks I will be dyeing to give my hands a rest, but right now they just feel kind of empty.” She laughed and got out of the vehicle and followed him towards the mess. She hadn’t expected him to get her door, so crimson crept up her cheeks a moment as she managed a murmured “Thank you.”
But as he spoke of having a kid, she looked at him a little different. Her admiration for him grew. Kids meant a family, and that meant eking out every spare minute for them because you never knew when you would be called away… or when you would come back. “Though with family, I am sure your wife would rather have you home than placating some cadet with range time.” She was still relaxed; it was hard to ruffle her. Her brothers hated that about her. Claimed she must be alien because she didn’t seem to have a bad temper or short fuse like they did.
“That is a lucky place to have a daughter. You definitely got lucky this time. And I hope if I get my cycle out here, maybe your mechanic can gimme a hand with her. Know just enough to keep her running right, but wouldn’t mind someone giving her a little extra attention.” She followed as he led towards the Enlisted. “And no, the walk wouldn’t be horrible. Just have to time it sometime is all. Make sure I can get here and back between classes and training." She adjusted her hat she had tossed on before leaving the barracks and ran her hands down the front of her gear. No point looking ragged when making a first impression.

"Oh, not married," he grinned as they moved inside, "Their mom hooked up with someone else, though probably for the best." He hadn't thought much about his ex in a long time, even though Cymbrecia had her temperament. "Military life keeps me busy and while I'd rather be around for my son and daughter, they have their own lives right now too. I keep in touch every chance I get."
Inside, the main dining room and neighboring kitchen was nearly empty except for the cooks preparing the evening meal, so he turned left and continued down a short and wide hallway. "I'll tell him and see what he can do. Believe it or not, the Chief of Army Ops has a brother in town that's running a repair shop for bikes and swoops. Been over there to see TJ a few times and he's pretty smart. And local," he shrugged then motioned into the left entryway and the small kitchen that he had mentioned. The main hallway ended in a large, dimly lit club where the action happened in the evenings and especially on the weekend.
Following her in, they caught the attention of an attendant droid who turned. "How may I help you," he queried, a large menu displayed along the wall above it. Every culture and type of food seemed to be represented and labeled as such.

Raising kids on his own couldn't have been easy. But she didn't know him well enough to pry. "Sorry she's gone." Was all she said. As they meandered in and out of the back sides of the mess, they came to their destination. "That would be perfect. I prefer local places to the dealers. They always seem to charge you three times what they paid when you know they actually paid less than the local guy for parts and such."
When they were approached by the droid, she raised a hand to defer to him. "I defer to your judgements." She laughed. Some places the local fare was better than others. And in some places, you could order anything and it worked out ok. Till she learned what kind of place this was, what better way to get to know new dishes and suggestions?
"I am not picky, though I am not fond of over spiced foods. Seems I can take a whoopin but I can't take the heat." She laughed and waited to see what he would come up with.
