Walking beside his daughter, Cabrin felt alive since returning from his recent mission with Llewel. Having her near had become a dream for a very long time and also knowing that she had gotten away from the criminal that had gotten her into so much trouble was a plus as well. Voices echoed in the large mall as other shoppers enjoyed the weekend, the lighted storefronts inviting everyone to spend all their money.
"How you like your new job," he finally asked, having left her alone on that subject since she had so much trouble finding work. Being an ex-con wasn't all that appealing to companies looking for trustworthy help.
"It's cool," she nodded, then grabbed his arm and physically dragged him into a clothing shop which also sported a host of other accessories. "The girl and her brother are nice, though she's away on duty quite a bit."
"He still hitting on you?"
Smirking at him, Cymbrecia had an edge to her that he knew she got from him. "Nothing I can't handle." Picking up a nice bottle of perfume, she sprayed it and took a whiff. Cringing, she put it back down and continued browsing.
"That one was nice," he commented, though knowing she wasn't into smelling like a "girl".
"I'll get it for you then."
Chuckling, he continued trailing her through the narrow aisles and displays. "I realize it doesn't smell like tabanna gas or bearing grease, but..."
"Bottle that up and I'd make a fortune," she grinned and evaluated a black leather jacket, then tried it on. Flicking her long, ebon hair over the collar, the lithe mechanic and ship's pilot moved to a large mirror.
Grinning with pride at his daughter, he didn't wish for this day to end.

"Thank you... I'll go try it on."
Llewel smiled at the shop woman who had helped her find the off size leather jacket she had desired. The woman walked away as Llewel headed for the dressing room mirrors. The clerk had been nice enough to go to the back and search for the shiny black leather coat. And as Llewel slipped it on and looked into the full length mirror, she whispered a silent thank you to the now absent woman. It for perfectly on her compact frame.
With long arms and short trunk, Llewel had even had to have her military uniforms altered. Long arms and short torso made her perfect sniper material, which was what she was training for, but was hell on her wardrobe. Mostly she wore denim slacks and t-shirts because they were easiest to get a fit for.
Lost in her happiness at finally having something that didn't need more money in alterations, she began shucking off the soft leather and debating her need for anything else before heading for the check out. Her overly long arms were all over the place as she passed the jacket behind her to remove it completely and suddenly she hit something solid.
"Dammit!" she let loose with the curse as she spun around half expecting to have knocked some display over. What met her gaze was a man's back slowly beginning to turn towards her.
"All the gods...I'm so sorry!" She bent over to pick up the fallen jacket and began to formulate another apology in case it was needed as she stood back up and brushed her hair back into place.

Admiring Cymbrecia and wondering how she had grown up so fast, he was lost in thought when someone or something bumped him from behind. Turning, he recognized his previous mission partner and smiled when there had initially been a frown. "Well, hello there," he greeted. "Funny running into you here." Even though he had mentioned Llewel going shopping once they got back.
Approaching from the mirror, Cymbrecia's blue eyes evaluated the other female and motioned to her with an upraised chin. "You know her?"
"Llewel, this is my daughter, Cymbrecia. Brecie, this was the private that I was on this past mission with. Great sniper."
"Oh, hey," the nineteen year old greeted half-heartedly.

Llewel nodded back in mirrored response to the young woman and smiled. "Hey..." Glancing at Cabrin she felt her cheeks redden. "You aren't a bad shot yourself." She patted her leg.
She had been caught unawares, from behind, on their last mission. He had killed the one who shot her, but in her mind, she still owed him. Shaking herself mentally, she smiled once more. "You said I should go shopping. So I took your advice." She held up the leather jacket she had been trying on when she bumped him.
"Since you are here, I was about to stop and get something to drink. Can I offer one to you and your daughter?" Her hair was down, something he probably wasn't used to seeing. And her face seemed calm and relaxed, something else rare in her these days. The light color on her eyes and lips was there, but not overly gaudy like some makeup jobs seemed to be. It managed to enhance her looks rather than cover them. Other than a pair of small black stud earrings that matched the stone on her simple necklace, she wore no other jewelry. And her clothes were simple. Her combat boots peaked from under a pair of denim pants and the shirt she wore was plain and probably more suited to a man than a woman. But she wore it well and no one would have accused her of being manly.
"I mean, if I am not interrupting a father/daughter day. I don't want to be an intrusion." She glanced at the back of the woman as she looked at more clothes. Llewel knew enough about reading people to know that while the woman seemed indifferent to her, she was listening to the conversation.

"Yeah," he glanced to Cymbrecia who nodded with a shrug and went back to evaluating more clothing. "That'd be great, actually." Returning his gaze to Llewel, he was taken with how good she looked out of uniform and finally relaxed. "Nice to finally break off some of that money that's been sitting since we left," he turned toward her more as two women passed him, glancing at the brunette that Cabrin was talking to.
Nearing him, Cymbrecia's blue eyes sparkled at hearing that. "Don't worry, I'll help you with that," she smiled.
Chuckling, Cabrin glanced to his daughter again as she seemed to be attached to the leather jacket now, it's deep brown color complimenting her wavy, black hair. Watching her move to another collection of blouses, "Going to get me in trouble," he began and glanced to Lllewel, "But, it's worth it."
"So," Cymbrecia cut in, "Llewel. Where you from?"

Llewel wasn't used to money. In fact, despite having probably enough in credits to move off base and live comfortably, she stayed in the barracks and ate at the chow hall and spent little on anything other than replacement of personal items when needed. She suddenly realized she was staring at him. Cabrin looked handsome in his uniform, but in civilian clothes, there was something more about him. Something that made her feel like a school kid with a crush.
She shifted her shoulder slightly as if mentally shrugging off an excuse to not be spending more. Smiling she just shrugged to cover it. She had been about to comment when Cymbrecia piped up with the offer to spend her father's hard earned money. Before embarrassment set it, she managed to stifle her laugh and maintain it to a giggle. "Maybe I will have your daughter teach me how to do just that." She winked at the girl as she glanced her way and went back to the blouses she was looking at.
Her smile faded slightly as the girl asked about her background. She hadn't spoken of it to anyone and now it was suddenly there... out in the open. She quickly recovered and smiled but this time it felt awkward and contrived. "A little mining planet just inside the border planets this side of Naboo. My brother and father were miners. Taught me to shoot. I left soon as I could board a transport without someone grabbing me to drag me home."
She glanced briefly at Cabrin and then looked away hoping she wouldn't hear disdain or disappointment in his voice. She knew his military code of honor was important to him. And seeing him with his daughter, his family was important, too. How would he feel that she ran from her family at the first chance she had? Would he question her ability to remain at her post if given the command?
Rather than dwell on the matter, she moved towards the same rack Cymbrecia was looking at and smiled. "I bet this one would go great with that coat." She laughed and seemed relaxed once more. Again... no point in dwelling on things she couldn't control.

Listening to Llewel's story about home, he was surprised that they didn't share more when out in the field, but most of their time was trying to keep from being detected. Now that they had the chance, he realized that her home life may not have been all that happy - another thing that they had in common. Cabrin also keyed in on the words that she used about her father and brother.
Cymbrecia evaluated the blouse that Llewel raised up, giving an appreciative grin and took it from her. "I'll go try it on," blue eyes glanced to her father, "No running off with her or I'll tell Aunt Maggie."
Cabrin smiled away his embarrassment knowing that flame had died some time ago. Deflecting, he turned his attention to Llewel as his daughter moved to the dressing room, grabbing a few more things on the way. "Ilana is an old friend of ours. She's the reason that I'm wearing Republican green instead of some independent colors," he clarified and joined her, though not as intrigued with female attire as the one picking through them.

Llewel watched Cymbrecia dance off with her jibe thrown over her shoulder and smiled turning to lean on a support column behind her. She wasn't into frills and silks. "I think you look good in green." She laughed and winked teasing. "Maybe we should get you a new shirt, too."
"As for me... I doubt there are many more shades in my civilian clothes than there are in my drab military uniforms. I am not one to go crazy on things like this." She waved her hand towards the colorful blouses and skirts that the girl had been going through. "I don't usually do more than replace my t-shirts when they wear out, or my denims when they won't look decent anymore." Her laughter was genuine then and she shook her head in embarrassment. "I guess I am more like one of the boys than I thought."

"Nothing wrong with being independent," he commented, knowing her veiled, self deprecating statement had been made already. Unsure where the lack of self confidence came from, he definitely appreciated that she wasn't conceited, especially being as attractive as she was. "Trust me, Brecie's been filling my closet and drawers with new clothes since she got here," he laughed. "Starting to run out of room, in fact."
Blue eyes took in the rest of the store and he knew his daughter would spend all day in the mall if he let her, and that wasn't such a bad thing. "She's a lot like her mother," he revealed. "If not shopping for clothes, she's picking through a salvage yard looking for new parts for a ship. Think you fit right in with this clan," Cabrin smiled. "Should probably run now while you have a chance."

...You fit right in with this clan...
The thought of being part of anything worthwhile had been why she became a soldier. But being included in something outside of that had never crossed her mind. Suddenly though, her mouth responded before her mind stopped it. "Sorry, LT...no retreat here." she laughed and nodded her chin in the direction of the changing room. "Maybe I'll have to take her shopping for more storage. Or perhaps get you out in civilian attire more often so you start wearing things out."
She laughed again and winked teasing. "Of course I have a whole storage closet I'm not using. Perhaps we can just shuffle your wardrobe around occasionally."
As she watched his reaction she couldn't help but add one more jab. "I mean...unless you want me to retreat." She doubted he'd say yes, but part of her still waited for him to take offense at her forwardness.

Cabrin chuckled knowing Llewel also had a bit of Ilana in her, which was scary. Blue eyes took in the woman before him and he was beginning to sense that strange charge rush through him and knew that if something happened, it could be a problem. "Don't say I didn't warn ya," he grinned.
Soon, Cymbrecia returned with an armful of new clothes that she had chosen, some items put back on her way to rejoining them. "Well, still here I see," she commented dryly, glancing to Llewel.
"Not leaving you here alone," he replied, brow narrowing a bit. "You know better than that."
Grinning, she nodded lightly and moved toward the cashier, passing Llewel on her way. "I gave you an opening," she whispered.
Following his daughter, Cabrin's hearing wasn't as bad as she thought and ignored it while taking out his wallet. Waiting as the young girl swiped the items, he glanced to Llewel, "You not want anything from here?"
Grabbing his credcard, Cymbrecia handed it to the cashier who then paid for the items before bagging them. "Might as well grab something, he doesn't spend money on anything, anymore. Ship's falling apart," she shook her head. "Glad Kaliman hasn't visited yet, though I need to call him," she stated, removing her comlink from her new jacket's pocket.
Cabrin glanced to Llewel, "My son".

Llewel had to cover her mouth and look away to follow the girl as she made the comment about leaving her an opening. Was the young lady trying to play match maker? The thought was a pleasant one, but unrealistic and unlikely. Chatting in a plaza or sharing a moment of refreshment was one thing...but...
When Cymbrecia mentioned her father's spending habits it dawned on her he was offering to cover her expenses as well. "No...it's ok. It's just the jacket."
She set the leather down to reach into her pocket for her wallet as she turned her eyes off them for a moment. "I'm not familiar with the plaza, where's a suggestion you have for stopping for some refreshment? I meant, if you aren't in a rush. I don't wanna keep you from anything. I know how rare our down time is."
She waited for the cashier to finish with Cymbrecia. And tried not to think of anything in particular. But it wasn't working and her mind kept making up more scenarios of times like this...the three of them doing things like a family. She bit her lip and fiddled with a magazine rack beside the register.

Cabrin put his credcard back once Cymbrecia was done with it, smiling as he hugged her knowing she was beginning to feel awkward. His daughter was tough, but not as closed off from her feelings as she tried to get him to think.
"What was that for," she looked up at him, quizzically.
"Because," he smiled, kissing her on the forehead, then glanced to Llewel as she asked about a cafe or restaurant. "There's several actually. What'd you have a taste for?" Taking one of the bags from Cymbrecia, he backed a step and then moved out of the way of other shoppers in line behind them.
"Chocolate Factory," Cymbrecia said, smiling at Llewel. "They have a lot of other stuff on the menu also, but their cakes and pies are to die for."
Cabrin grinned, both females being quite thin and in shape, he knew they kept this up, all three of them would have to hit the gym in the morning, but he didn't mind it.

Giving them a moment of privacy, Llewel tookher time paying for her jacket before joining them off to the side.
She laughed at the thought of stuffing herself and nodded. "Sounds good to me. Though I'll probably pay for it at the gym tomorrow." Like most of the soldiers in the barracks, she used the gym or the open trails nearly every day. It was too easy for a sniper to become soft I the middle because they were less physically active in combat situations.
"I'll just have to make sure your dad stuffs himself, too. Then maybe he'll have pity on us come Monday, as well."
She nodded for the girl to lead the way and fell easily into step with Cabrin. "I envy you two. You're lucky to have family so close." It wasn't that she missed her family, quite the contrary. She missed one of her brothers, but that was all. But she envied them none the less. "Must make going out on missions hard. I'll just have to cover your backside twice as diligently now."

Walking with the pair into the main thoroughfare, he enjoyed the closeness of both now. He and Llewel had shared a mission together, relying on one another for their safety which bonded soldiers in a unique way. "I'll be hitting the gym Monday anyway, so a few extra situps won't be an issue," he grinned.
"Eh," Cymbrecia shook her head.
Cabrin chuckled, glancing at Llewel, "She hates exercise. Amazing with as thin as she is, though they keep her busy at the salvage yard and shop that she works at now. It's owned by the colonel and her brother, in fact. TJ's been hitting on her, but the colonel's been keeping him in line."
"She's never around that much," the ebon haired mechanic clarified. "But, he's cool."
Walking through the foot traffic, he glanced at Llewel as she commented on his family. Sighing lightly, blue eyes returned to his daughter momentarily before returning to Llewel. "Wasn't always that way. Just finally got her back about a year ago. Their mom and I split about twelve years ago and all I ever got from either Brecie or Kaliman were holovids, so that was tough."
Cymbrecia grinned mischievously, "Now he's paying for all that time away," she stated, hugging him. "Love you, daddy," she said in an almost child-like, sarcastic tone.
"Love you too, brat," he kissed her on the head, arm around her shoulders until she moved away as they approached the restaurant near the center of the mall. "Hope your hungry," he mentioned to Llewel.
