"The day was going well," Liz thought to herself as she headed into the Training Building and turned towards the wing she was seeking.
She had had a good workout, she had seen Tal again, and her psych eval was in her hand from her appointment to check back in. It dawned on her she had never asked Tal if he had gotten the promotion to Lt. Commander because of the task they had been sent to, or if he had been punished for her 'death' and failure. She also hadn't looked in the small pouch she carried that contained the stat card from the therapist. He had said she could come request to return to work, but had been cryptic enough that she worried if there was something there that she was missing.
Shaking her head, she settled her pace and headed to the desk to report in. "Alizabeth Moroveston, Senate Intern, here to report back to duty." She slid the psych chip and clearance plas-sheet across the counter and smiled.
A few moments later she was seated in a chair while someone was told of her arrival. She had no clue what was to come. But she did hope it involved the soldiers she had worked with before, or something closer to home. She doubted she would be able to trust another group to guard her again so soon...
... she just hoped she wouldn't have to.
Sighing, knowing that she would take whatever the Fates through her way, she brushed a stray strand of hair behind her ear and settled in to see what would happen.

Talos IV was bustling as always, granted there was more security checkpoints than he remembered. Even he, an established member of the senate, couldnt get past the NRSA.It had been a long time since Evan Mathews had set foot on the New Republic capital. Most of his time had been spent on Coruscant taking care of his parents whose health had started failing. For a time, he had been able to take care of his senatorial duties while on Coruscant. Now that, Aleane had finally come home to help, Evan was free to make trips to Talos IV to make an appearance at other events.
He sat in his office, which was surprisingly clean despite the fact that he hadnt been there in almost six months. The walls were barren and painted the same dreary beige color that all of the offices were painted. It was awful. His personal effects were sitting in a box on the floor next to his desk. Evan figured that someone had thought that it's occupant had abandoned the place a started to clean up. It was a drag to have to set up this place again, but he'd get to it eventually. Not now though. No now it was time to head back to his apartment and spend a night alone for a change.
Evan grabbed his jacket, which was lying unceremoniously across on chair on the other side of his desk, and walked out the door. Not bothering to lock the door behind him, he went down that hall and made his way into the foyer. If he had been any deeper into his thoughts he would have missed the ghost sitting in the room. His eyes widened, his jaw hit the floor, and all breath left his lungs.
"Alizabeth..." the name fell out of his mouth with his breath. It was a whisper, but one that the woman would hear without a doubt. He felt himself being pulled towards her. His feet moved of the own volition. It was as if time had stopped. He wasnt even sure if she had noticed him. He wasnt even sure if his eyes were playing tricks on his tired mind.
"Liz, is it really you?"

That voice. She knew it anywhere. Looking up, she had to squint a moment to make sure she wasn't seeing things. "Evan...?" Realizing the receptionist was in the room, she bit her lip and tried to put on a neutral face. "Mr. Mathews, it's been a long time. It is good to see you are well."
She didn't realize she had risen and met him half way. With her back to the receptionist, she let the facade fall and let him see the real joy on her face, and surprise. "I... I didn't know you were here. I am here to see about returning to work. Some... things... have happened recently and I need to report before getting my next assignment." She wanted to very badly to tell him everything right then and there. It ached her throat to keep it in. But it was no one's business but her own.
And it had been so very long... would he even feel still as he had back then? Or would she simply be another intern who had returned from hell, scathed but alive, and he was glad to see her for that reason alone?

Evan
Evan felt his heart rise into his throat as Alizabeth got up to meet him. His heart skipped a beat when he saw the mutual joy on her face.
"What? When? How?" His tongue fumbled across the words. Ironic, considering that he was a major political leader in the New Republic. His articulation and way with was known across the galaxy. For those who might be listening to the conversation, hearing a renowned politician fumbling about his words to an intern was something noteworthy. But then again, nobody probably noticed because people didnt pay attention to what was going on around them. Something he was particularly guilty of from time to time. For instanct, not keeping tabs on the woman who had taken his breath away once upon a time.
"I heard what happened," he said, after a moment of gathering his thoughts. "Im sorry I wasnt there when you were rescued. I didnt know until after they sent you on administrative leave." His eyes darted away for a moment, ashamed that he hadnt tried to reach out while she was away.
Her word choice was somewhat amusing to the Senator. So... militaristic. It made him laugh visbly before he caught himself. "Well lucky for you, I saved your spot in the internship program," Evan said offhandedly. "As for your assignment," he added, emphasizing her own word choice. "You dont need to worry about those for a while. The New Republic has be keeping their politicians closer to home now. Trying not to send them into hostile territory since the war started."

If only the receptionist wasn't busy half paying attention while talking on the comm...
If only they were alone...
Alexa shifted her body so her back was to the receptionist. Instantly her smile blossomed into a smile more reminiscent of what he would have remembered. She silently mouthed, *Ive missed you.*
"Thank you for saving my spot. To be honest, I wasn't sure what was going to come of my return." She laughed and tried to remain professional. She was an intern afterall. And while she had once been seen with him often enough to be considered his protege by some, his secret weapon by others.. she wanted to be sure that the rumors remained professional for his sake.
"It's ok that you weren't here. I know your schedule keeps you busy." She wanted to get him alone. "Would you by chance know how I can get my id reinstated so I can be put back into rotation?" With any luck at all, he wasn't in a rush and they would go back to his office. She wanted to tell him what happened. She wanted to apologize for making him think she had been dead. And most of all, she wanted to let him know it was ok. And that she was ok.
