www.sw-rpg.net/forums/showthread.php?44617-I-Didn-t-Think-you-Cared-Alizabeth-Moroveston09-23-2015, 05:39 PM Tal Kote -The blond mandalorian's bright yellow eyes looked down upon his right prosthetic arm. It had been two weeks since the surgery to rebuild and reinforce his spin. And still he couldn't move that appendage. The High General of the New Republic was stuck on bed rest; frell he couldn't even get out of bed to enjoy the view of Naboo. Doctor Keir Wayne had told him it would be a difficult recovery, and quiet frankly he wasn't joking in the slightest. Every four hours a care team came in to check his nerves. Just to simply lay there and watch as they poked and prodded you wasn't the best thing in the galaxy. It all came down to "wiggling your toes" and "squeezing my hand" as they had requested of him.... Something that he could barely perform without a great deal of pain soaring through his spine.- "Everything checks out fine," -Spoke the neuro-physician.- "Fine," -Tal scoffed towards the doctor.- "Fine doesn't help me sit up in bed, fine doesn't allow me to go outside to breath the fresh air of Naboo, and sure enough fine doesn't help this pa..." -Kote paused for a moment and closed his eyes as needles seemed to be pressing all over his back. After a while his eyes opened and focused over to the doctor.- "Didn't Dr. Wayne explain it to you General? It's going to be a while before you can perform the basic functions you used to do. The best we can do is keep checking on you and ease your pain..." "With medication.. I know." -Tal let out a sigh knowing he was in it for the long run. He had signed over the paperwork from the imperial doctor to fix his back. Wayne explained in detail what was going to happen and what he would be experiencing in the end. Unlike those times of running and jumping everywhere; Kote was restricted in movement now. Letting out a breath of air; he looked over to the neuro-physician who nodded writing something down on his chart before leaving the room.- Another five-and-a-half months to go. -Yellow eyes moved over to the holo-projector that displayed the local Naboo news. Everything was so peaceful here compared to Telos and Mandalore. Everytime one turned on the news; it seemed like something was happening. A shooting, death, or something to deal with the war effort. Here it was the basic weather, lottery winnings, and traffic. So peaceful...-

11-07-2015, 12:14 AM Alizabeth Moroveston
Naboo.... She had asked about for Tal and had learned he had gone to Naboo.
Landing in the station she took the first transport to the hospital and, her bag still on her back, she asked for him at the nurses station. "Tal Kote, please... what room is he in?"
The young lady behind the desk tapped a couple keys then frowned. "He is only allowed family members. Are you family?"
She bit her lip then nodded. "Yes.... I am his sister, Alizabeth. He is expecting me." She hoped he would anyway, "Will you just call up and see if he will see me? It's ... ummm... been a while since we spoke. I doubt he would have considered putting me on the family list." She tried to smile and hoped her racing heart wasn't as loud to the nurse as it was to her.
The nurse smiled as if in silent support and picked up the comm. Dialing his room, Liz listened while she spoke and waited with baited breath while she hoped to be let up. "Mr. Kote, this is the main desk. Your sister, Alizabeth, is here for you. Should I send her away?"
Liz frowned... send her away? She bit her lip again and waited to see what her fate would be.

-The blond mandalorian closed his eyes once more, and attempted to move his right arm once more. Taking moderate breaths of air; he only hopped that he could form a fist. Laying their quietly he tried to remain as patient as possible in all the likely-hood that something would happen. After about fifteen minutes a chime came through the speakers of his room. Kote's eyes opened up and glanced down at his right hand again. It had moved, but only a couple of inches to of actually been noticeable. Exhaling finally; his eyes glanced over to the comm of the nurse at the front desk.-
Wait... Alizabeth?
-Who other then Alizabeth Moroveston; the same Alizabeth who he promised to take to dinner three weeks ago. He had completely forgot and blew her off. Did she ever want to see him again? Well she wouldn't be here for nothing. She had come to see him... laying down in a bed unable to move his prosthetic limbs and barely able to sit up.-
-After a while the blond exhaled and then finally responded.-
"There's no need; please send her in."

The woman seemed a bit perplexed as she tapped off her headset and nodded to Liz. "He said you can see him." She proceeded to give Liz the room number and then the nurse summarily dismissed her by turning her back and going back to her computer.
Liz managed to murmur 'Thank you' and headed down the hall.
Her mind went over the last three weeks since she had seem him last. They had been sparring in the gym. He had come upon her trying to work out and had found an out of control, raged, non concentrating woman flailing her arms around with no thought of purpose or concentration. He had helped to rein her back in, given her focus, and helped her center and calm down. He had then asked her to dinner. When he hadn't shown up that night, she had been upset, but had just figured he would contact her and apologize and they would reschedule. But it never happened.
A week or so ago, after patience and forgiveness had given way to anger and betrayal and had then simmered to indifference, she had started hearing his name mentioned around. Folks said his promotion had been well earned. That many people had benefited from it and many more would in the future. She had resigned herself to the fact he was probably a high ranking officer now and had figured a date with an Intern wouldn't bode well for his career.
She had started to look back and scrutinized every moment of their encounter and had convinced herself it had been nothing more than him being friendly, and relieved she wasn't really dead, and that dinner had probably been a reflex reaction. She had asked around and discovered he had come here for some kind of surgery and had come to forgive him and hopefully let him know she still wanted to be friends, but wouldn't get in the way of his career.
Her mind came to a screeching halt when she realized she was in front of his door. Knocking lightly, she called to him as she slid open the panel to look in and see if he was really up to a visit. "Tal..." She walked up to stand at the foot of his bed and saw him laying there, his prosthetic arm laying awkwardly still at his side. Realizing she was staring at his eyes, something she always found mesmerizing about him, she looked down at the plasheet at the foot of his bed and fiddled with the edge of it a moment before looking back up. "I am sorry to bother you. I won't stay long. I just wanted to make sure you were ok and didn't need anything." She wasn't sure why, but suddenly she felt foolish for coming to see him. She could have waited till he came back.
Her hair was bound up, though loose tendrils floated around her face where they had worked their way loose. And he clothes, while not rumpled, had the look of being worn for a bit more than a few hours. She had been trying to not look at his face, but she kept failing and soon was looking at his eyes once more.

-The blond mandalorian swallowed a large lump that had somehow appeared in his throat. His bright yellow eyes lowered down at his bed sheets. Thoughts raced over his mind through the past several weeks from when he last saw Alizabeth. Initially, he had asked her out to dinner after their time in the gym. And to this day; Tal hated himself for standing her up. He wanted to contact her and apologize time and again. It wasn't at all his position as High General that got in the way. No. It was in fact his injury. That night something had happened that literally paralyzed him. His whole body had gone limp and he couldn't move. He had been taken to the hospital where they were able to restore motor function. However, the doctors had given him an estimated time before he would be completely paralyzed. It was horrible enough to hear those words; so how else was he able to explain this to Alizabeth. His health was already deteriorating. Was this just another excuse.-
Does she even care about me anymore? -This thought raced through his head several times.-
-First he had lost his limbs in that speeder race on Mandalore; then, he was diagnosed with PTSD; and now finally, he was in a hospital bed due to some spinal injury. How much longer before his body completely broke down and he had no other choice but to retire.-
-His focus nearly broke when Alizabeth's words echoed into his room. Yellow eyes lifted up to see her stepping him speaking softly and gently. For a moment he felt pain, and not any kind of pain from the surgery.... no. It was the pain of betrayal. Not showing up to their dinner those weeks ago. How could he explain himself now that she was here. Looking over him; laying motionless on a hospital bed. Again he swallowed another lump in his throat. His yellow eyes opened as she spoke to him. For a moment he was at a loss for words.-
"Liz," -Uttering that single word calmly. Kote's own eyes matched hers. Opening his mouth to speak; he stuttered on these next few words.- "I didn't think you would show up or even cared about coming to see me. Not with what happened three weeks ago." -Lifting his head slightly he moved his left arm slightly in hopes of sitting up in bed, but he found his head back on the pillow to which it rested upon.- "I wanted to say I'm sorry for standing you up on our dinner night. I didn't mean for it to happen; I just..... I just had an accident that crippled me. I was in the hospital for a few days and couldn't find a means to contact you."
-Whether she believed him was another story. Those were the words he wanted to say to her after what happened.-
"I understand if you don't believe me and if you don't want to see me again." -His eyes lowered once more.- "Some mandalorian I am; I can't even hold a promise."

He was apologizing to her. It seemed wrong, somehow.
When he tried to sit up and fell back, she didn't realize it, but she had gone to his side and was smiling, trying to contain her giggle. "Let's try holding yourself together... then we will worry about holding to a promise. How is that?" She laughed slightly and sat down in the chair beside his bed and slid it forward so he wouldn't have to sit up again to see her.
Once he had settled down, though her giggle diminished, her smile didn't. "Why wouldn't I want to see you again? I had thought you didn't want to see me. I heard you had been promoted and I just figured since you were a ranking officer now, maybe my being a mere intern wouldn't have gone over well. I am glad you were promoted and not demoted after what transpired on Drunkenwell with me. I was glad to hear none of you were punished for my disappearance. I know it wasn't your fault... well..." she glanced down at her hand playing with his bed sheet just a few inches from his metal fingers. "Well... now I do. I mean..." she looked up and smiled again. "I mean I had originally thought you all were killed. I am sorry about the ones you left at my door that night, Tal. I know you take the protection of the men under you very seriously. I never got to say I am sorry."
Her hand reached up and brushed errant hair behind her ear and laughed. "Gracious... I feel like a school child. I'm sorry." She straightened her back and ran a finger over his hand. "Did the doctors figure out what happened? I mean are you going to be ok? I hope this doesn't affect your promotion any. I know some people have been asked to step down or been given assignments that made it pretty much the same." She had no idea what level his promotion had been to because she had reported to work but was going thru physical training again and mental screenings so much to determine her ability to return to work and hadn't had a chance to do more than go home at night and sleep. Despite being in the political arena due to her position, since her return, she had been more on the outside than the inside.

Was she serious? -He thought for a brief moment.-
-Though he was unable to move; Tal wanted nothing more than to sit up in bed and hug her. Only a few understood how much pride and honor mandalorian's had. To live b Resol'nare and fight strong. Even though he was the military leader; those beliefs still stood strong with him. From the time he left Manda'yaim to when he joined the New Republic and rose through the ranks.-
-Sighing; Tal's eyes shifted slightly. He had figured she already knew of his rank. But wait.... Did she know that he was now the military leader of the New Republic? That his position was far beyond that of a Captain or Colonel? Those years ago back on Druckenwell; Kote was only a Lieutenant. He had barely joined the SpecForce and obtained the rank of second-in-command of the Devil Dogs. Since then he had rose through the ranks once more becoming Captain and then finally High General. And even after the newest position in High General; Tal still kept going strong by improving the military force. Both on the Army and Naval side. So did she hold that kind of knowledge that he was one of the one's who literally 'called the shots'.-
"You don't need to apologize for what happened on Druckenwell," -Tal said calmly.- "Something like that was bound to happen even with heighten security. We can't predict what's going to happen after all. But as you can see I'm still alive and so is everyone else.... for the most part."
-Calmly he watched her playing with his bed sheets. From the waist down he was covered. The upper portion of his body remained bare skin and bones. Well, to be honest, he wasn't a skinny guy. There was muscle all around from his abdomen, to his chest, and arms. So overall, he was a well-built guy. Save for his prosthetic arm that laid awkwardly at his side. Beneath the sheets he had been hooked up to a small machine that helped with bathroom usage. Considering he couldn't stand up at the moment; the blond mandalorian had no other choice but to utilize this device. After a moment of silence; he slightly lifted his left hand up and extended it over his body -- as best he could -- touching her hand. The look in his eyes more reassuring. Resting it back down on the bed; he offered a smile.-
"Well for over a course of a year; my body has slowly began to deteriorate because of my prosthetic limbs." -He answered calmly.- "The doctor's told me that the heavy metal of my arm and leg had been causing so much strain on my body; that if I didn't find a way of treating it I would find myself retiring from the New Republic early." -Of course that sounded bad, but that's how everything went. Plus side was that Kote was able to find a doctor that would help him.- "So I went out and found a surgeon that could repair my back and get me back to fighting strength again... and so here I am now."
Though it seems like now I am more machine then man, -Considering that a good portion of his spine was replaced and enhanced with cybernetics now.-

She laughed slightly and ran her fingers lightly over the metallic hand and wrist. "Well, I guess for a while, while you are recovering, I may have the opportunity to beat you in a spar."
"I'm glad you found a good doctor to help. I don't know anything about cybernetics, but I would think reinforcing your spine would help alleviate the pressure from the overly heavy limbs." She bit her lip and smiled a bit wider. "I will have to be careful or when you do finally recover. After-all, I had trouble keeping up with you when you claim you weren't at your best."
She watched his face and his eyes and saw the pain there that seemed to be from more than just the surgeries. She didn't know him half as well as she should, or wanted to. Before the assignment that had introduced them, she had only seen and known him in passing. Before the mission he had been one of her combat readiness trainers. He and Adam had both helped to train her for eventualities, possibilities and scenarios that could possibly happen on their adventure. It had been those trainings, his more especially, that had actually saved her life. Adam had taught her skills in observation and escape tactics. But it was Tal who taught her survival tactics and the ways to sneak up and kill people. She wasn't proud of it, but she had had to kill to survive. And if he hadn't been the one to show her she was strong and capable, she doubted she would be sitting here right now.
"You know... there is one advantage I can think of to you being confined to this bed." She grinned in an almost sly way. "I can bring dinner and you can't make an excuse this time." She laughed and winked. "And I am willing to take orders, as I am sure you outrank me at this point, as to what I am to provide for your nourishment and healing." She laughed again and seemed to relax as if she was here all the time and this day was no different than any other.

"Now let's not get carried away," -Tal chuckled for a bit, but then stopped due to the pain that came from his surgeries.-
-For a brief moment; his eyes closed not really wanting to show Liz how much pain he was in from this surgery. His spine had to be reinforced and rebuilt completely. The surgery itself had taken nearly a whole day without any rest. It seemed enough that the surgeon was just guessing at everything, because even he didn't know if Tal was paralyzed from the waist down. Of course that wasn't on the mandalorian's agenda. He couldn't lead the NR from a power chair.-
Does she even know? -Kote thought to himself.- Should I tell her?
-His eyes focused back over to Liz; raising an eyebrow at her assumption of being confined to a hospital bed. The last thing he wanted her to see was him using some urinary device to go to the bathroom. But that seemed to be the least of his worries. Throughout the years he had been watching over her. Protecting her. Training her. And on this day she was the one looking at him on a hospital bed; hoping that everything went as planned. She would be the one protecting him and ensuring his survival on the road to recovery.-
"I'm pretty sure we are still in different departments of the New Republic," -Kote responded with a smile.- "But yeah no excuses this time; I'm literally not going anywhere for a few more weeks. Or at least until I am able to stand as the neuro team said." -It felt nice to have someone around; it wasn't just him trying to make subtle movements. Family was to far off on Mandalore and Telos to come visit. So this seemed best overall.-

It was good to see him laugh. But as he closed his eyes she came to her feet and her hand rested on his chest. "Easy... I'm sorry, Tal. I shouldn't have made you laugh." Her voice was calming and full of worry. "I'll get the nurse if you want. I should be letting you rest..." But before she could say more he looked back up at her and gave a half smile.
Worry still creased her brow as he refocused and mentioned them being in different departments. And as he spoke of not going anywhere for more than a few weeks, she vowed to help and be here as much as she could. "Then, I will stay, too. I mean... if it won't cause problems. I'm sure family or someone will be coming to take care of you. I don't want to be an interloper." She smiled once more and the creases on her forehead eased slightly. She was still standing over him, almost protective like, with a hand resting on his chest. Somewhere, deep down inside, something told her as long as she could feel his heart rate, everything would be ok.
Even if his family did show up, and even if she couldn't think of a good reason to take even more time off in her return training, something told her this was important... she wasn't going to leave unless he told her to.
She was bound and determined not to make things worse for him, so she smiled a bit brighter and nodded. "And you will be on your feet in no time, I am sure. You are stubborn, Tal Kote. And I know you enough to know you won't stay down longer than you have to." She hoped it would help.

-Her hand was cool to the touch; not cold like to the point where he would be jumping from his bed. But cool to add in that reassuring feel. The medical team already had him on a high dosage of pain relievers, and still there was pain within his body. He just needed to "push" himself to recover faster. Kote was after all as stubborn as they came in traditional mandalorian culture. Each breath he took; his chest slightly rose before falling into place. He wanted desperately to sit up in bed. Laying here was going to do him no good at all. Having Liz here was just an added bonus; he really didn't want her to leave.-
"That's good," -Tal responded smiling.- "I wouldn't want you to leave anyways."
She made the trip after all to come see me. -He thought calmly.-
"Naboo is to far away to travel for my family; everyone is either on Mandalore or Telos. It would take to long for them to come here to see me, and I doubt anyone would enjoy seeing the current condition I am in."
-The last thing he wanted was for family to put him down. One of many words was "being to weak" or "not honoring mandalorian culture". Master Je'karta was disappointed enough that Tal went ahead and joined the New Republic. And that disappointment was added on when Tal used prosthetic limbs to replace the one's he lost. A warrior was to fight till he literally could not fight anymore. And to see how Tal was turning more into a cybernetic man wouldn't really help. The surgery on his spine would eventually add into that. But Kote still wanted to be useful and fight for the rebellion. Only 20-years-old; he wasn't done fighting just yet.-
"You know me well, Liz." -He said chuckling only slightly. Enough to not bring up any pain at least.-

Liz watched the shadows play across his face. Pain, uncertainty, drive and determination all flashed in his eyes in one way or another.
Absently straightening the top of his covers, she slowly sat back down and smiled. "Now...I didn't come here to upset or rouse you. You need to rest."
She smiled brightly at him and nodded. "I think rest is most assuredly in order. I'll be here when you wake. I promise."
She pulled the chair closer and resettled herself more comfortably. "I'm sorry your family can't come, Tal. But I'll be here. I'll worry about how, later. But I won't leave you."
Her final words were said almost with enough conviction to seem like she was making sure the universe knew her decision.
Even if they never had dinner when they got back...even if his command was taken from him...and even if he went even higher up the ladder...She had him here, right now, literally close enough to touch. She would help him recover and see to it he knew she would always be his friend no matter what.

Yes; rest will help out, -Tal thought.-
-In the end all he could do was simply lay there and rest. Allow for his body to heal and recuperate from all the stress he put himself through. It was the least that he could do. Especially, after all that he had gone through. This had given the blond mandalorian a sense of pride. More so that he could finally gather the strength to stand and move about his hospital room. Or at least sit up in bed... either one would work honestly.-
-Kote closed his eyes; only hopping that he could sleep. After all it seemed like the best kind of medicine would be just that. His breathing calm and centered. Inhaling and exhaling slowly. He knew that Alizabeth was still here, but had nearly forgotten that he was in a hospital. Surrounded by doctors and nurses checking on him every fifteen to thirty minutes. Until the sound of his room door opening caught his attention. Yellow eyes opened again and scanned over to a neuro doctor -- a kaminoan -- garbed in white attire. She stood tall like any traditional kaminoan would. Her eyes were calm and focused. Next to her stood a nurse and two medical assistants. The doctor was the only alien species in this room. But when it came to Kaminoans they were well known as scientist and cloners. The last time Tal saw one of these was several months ago when he encountered a sith assassin. That sure enough didn't go over well.-
"A kaminoan?" -Tal questioned; his eyes now more focused.-
-The doctor stepped in and approached Tal's bed. Her calm eyes looking him over several times. Observing his body almost as if he were a test subject of some kind.- "Yes I am a Kaminoan, Mr. Kote." -She responded.- "Is that a problem?"
"Well," -His eyes lowered remembering when the last Kaminoan "doctor" performed experiments on him.- "The last time I saw a kaminoan doctor; he wasn't necessarily checking my health."
"Well, you need not to worry Mr. Kote; I am here to check on your health. Not perform experiments, and that's a promise." -Her eyes scanned over to Alizabeth who sat next to Tal's bed.- "And who might this be?"

When the doctors and nurses entered the room, Liz lifted her head from where it was resting on the bed next to Tal's arm. He had been dozing and after an hour or so, travel weary, she had begun to do the same.
When Tal's voice picked up a slight edge to it, she clenched her teeth together and stood up. As Tal spoke of his last encounter with, what she guessed was the species kaminoan, though she had never personally seen one, the underlying message was clear... he wasn't happy.
When the creature, doctor, turned to confront her, she lifted her chin and resettled her stance as if readying for a fight. If Tal noticed, he would see the defiance and strength she had often used with the ambassadors during her first, and last, mission. It was polite, proper and even bordering on formal. But there was no mistaking her for some little insignificant diplomat. There was a protective nature there that dared anyone to harm him.
"I am Alizabeth Moroveston, I work for the New Republic." There was no real rank she could put behind herself, and there was no official reason for her being here. But somehow the simple answer of her name didn't seem enough. If this doctor... creature... whatever... threatened and bothered Tal, she would make sure she was between them in a heartbeat.
"May I ask, what are you doing here? I don't recognize you as one of the regular doctors here." She hadn't seen a lot of the doctors, but she hoped it would give Tal the answers he needed to calm down. Her hand gripped tightly to his and it never occurred to her that in them being metal, he wouldn't feel her reassuring, or nervous, clenching.

"New Republic?" -The kaminoans had supplied the Old Republic an army of clones years prior. They considered it to be one of their greatest accomplishments. Well considering the fact they were scientist always at work... even to that point where some became doctors. But that still didn't mean it left this female kaminoan concerned. She wasn't at all like that other kaminoan doctor that tried to perform experiments on Tal months prior to this surgery.- "I fail to see the reason why the New Republic cares to involve themselves with a mandalorian... nor care for the mandalorians."
-Kote's eyes widened slightly at the response. Apparently this doctor had no idea that Tal was in fact with the New Republic as well. Did she simply believe that he was some kind of mercenary or bounty hunter for hire? His eyes moved down noticing Liz's hand firmly grasping the fingers of his prosthetic. His gaze then returned back to the doctor and nurses within the room. One of the nurses stepped forward holding Tal's chart.-
"Uhhhhh doctor, Mr. Tal Kote is with the New Republic as well." -The nurse stated calmly.- "In fact he is their...." -She paused for a moment just as Tal gave her a certain look. He honestly didn't want anyone from Naboo to know that he was the leader of the New Republic's military. The nurse calmly cleared her throat and stepped away.-
"Oh.... I didn't know this young mandalorian was with the New Republic. I only figured you were a hired mercenary or bounty hunter." -She cleared her throat calmly before continuing.- "Anyways, my reason for being here is to check on you Mr. Kote. My colleague had to leave rather quickly for another patient and asked me to check on you. And so here I am."
-The tension was building up on the young mandalorian. He felt that urge to tell the kaminoan to go away, but he didn't. He really couldn't do anything for that matter. Weeks after his surgery and he could barely sit up or get out of bed. To him this was embarrassing.-
