The winds of change had been blowing strongly throughout the republic within recent months. Firstly, the former NRIS director went missing, there was no letter of intent or note explaining the situation. One day Adrian was just told that Illana had not shown up in a very long while. Shortly after the former chief of state learned that news. He was told of the campaign against him, and the fourth coming vote of no confidence in his position. Adrian was told by his advisers, and other members of staff that the vote would hold no weight within the Senate if they moved quickly. However, Adrian did not move fast enough, and before he truly knew what was going on. Adrian had been voted out of his office, and his presidency ended within a week. It was then that Adrian realized that there was no true friendship in the field of politics.
Nearly everyone that Adrian had trusted or had a working friendship with in the past had turned their back on him. Adrian even tried to call in favors, and markers that he believed would help him retain some respect or some good will within the eyes of the republic. However, all those favors and promises, quickly turned to ash, and Adrian was effectively left out in the cold ice fields of Hoth. Just when the former chief of state thought that it was all over. The new Chief of State, Atara Themis, came to him with an offer. In exchange for his support for her presidency, and his remaining influence within the republic, as well as in the senate. Adrian would be given the office of Prime Minister, and still be in a position where he could serve and help the republic. Because, when it came down to the bare bones of it all, that was all Adrian wanted to do. The republic was an ideal, a belief that Adrian held strongly within his very soul. It was for that very reason that Adrian accepted Atara's offer.
Adrian stood within his new, smaller, office, starring out into the vista he knew so well. Adrian had spent many hours looking out at Telos, wondering how many people suffered, and how many people had sacrificed their loved ones in the on going war. Even now, a shell of his former self, Adrian still believed he could help those people, and restore the ideal that was the republic.
The door to Adrian's new office was open, and the former chief of state was too lost in his own thoughts to realize that fact...

She had once gotten used to people's stares when she had returned from her Drunkenwell experience. It wasn't often that someone came back from the dead. For that had been the truth back then. She had been legally declared dead for just over a year when her face had reappeared in the Senate buildings and explained she had escaped and returned home.
She had gotten used to people's stares when she had returned from her recuperation period and returned to work. Too many thought it was too early for the young woman to come back into the fold and be given assignments again.
Now she was fidgeting as once more, people stared. This time the reasons were far more obvious. Dressed in her usual business attire the scars showed. Her neck showed a raw line from electrocution burns up the left side towards her jawline. The jacket lapel and low neck blouse did nothing to hide it, nor did the cleverly applied makeup. But if those who looked knew where that scar came from, then they knew the rest from rumors and stories leaked from her hospital stay. There were marks and scars and even a brand on her body. The bags under her eyes, never seeming to fully disappear, and the palor on her cheeks, not quite covered despite the colors and coverings of makeup, were also signs of what she had endured.
The Sith, Jack Sheetai, had kidnapped her to lure the High General, Tal Kote, off world to rescue his beloved. The trick had worked. Tal had come to her rescue despite the possibility that the holo sent of her torture showed she was most likely going to be dead before he got their. She and Tal barely escaped with their lives.
Her subsequent return and lengthy recovery were known around the Senate Hall now as whispers and rumors. Walking the halls and seeing people stop and stare before quickly smiling as if nothing happened was getting easier, but it still made her walk more swiftly and stiffly towards her destination.
Adrian had been a friend before everything. She hoped he still was. If anyone was willing to give her a genuine smile, not stare and simper, it would be him... she hoped.
She once more straightened her dark blue jacket, smoothed her hands over her matching skirt and ran her fingers over her neatly braided hair, she turned the final corner that placed her a few feet from Adrian's door. The door was ajar and she stepped into its frame and stared at his back. She shifted her weight on her heels and took a moment to just observe him.
The silhouette of his body against the windows was one she had seen many times in the past. He often looked out the window when contemplating something troublesome. She gathered he didn't want anyone to see the crease lines his frown of concentration he often got when thinking deeply. It was a comforting sight, despite the size of his office being smaller than she usually saw him in. But the size of his surroundings made no difference to her. The familiar sight of him there seemed to cause the last piece of her life to settle into place.
She was really home...
Rather than knock and startle him, she felt her lips rise in a smile as she decided on a different approach.
Her soft voice carried across the room towards him. "If you keep frowning like that, people will begin to start guessing you as far older than you are, Sir." She had been gone too long to feel comfortable addressing him by his first name. She had been gone too long for a lot of things.

It took Adrian a long moment to realize that someone had taken advantage of the ajar door, and walked into his office. Even after the visitor made herself know. He stood at the window, looking out upon the horizon. It was only when Alizabeth's perfume hit his senses that Adrian realized that he had company. With a soft sigh, and a subtle smile. Adrian turned around, and walked over to greet his unexpected guest.
"Miss Moroveston, It's good to see you up on your feet again."
Even with everything that had happened in the past few months. Adrian still kept up to date upon his members of staff...well his former members of staff now. Granted, there were too many to remember, however Adrian always remembered the ones that made an impression. He most certainly remembered Atara, the now Chief of State, when she arrived she made her intentions clear from the word go. At the time, Adrian dismissed her passive aggressive statements as a young buck wanting to prove too much of herself. Adrian even went as far as to believe that Atara would not last long, back stabbing people, and being very aggressive when it came to her agenda's. However, it now seemed that Adrian underestimated Atara's resolve and determination. The unknown first mistake that Adrian made on his way down the ladder.
In truth, Adrian did not much care that his term came to an end. All he truly cared about was the people, and he hoped that his term in the Chief of State office would be one that people remembered for all the right reasons...instead of all the wrong ones.
After the now Prime Minister greeted Alizabeth. He gestured to an empty chair in front of his much smaller desk, as he walked around to sit in his own chair.
"I hope the doctors have not been too tough on you? I could even put in a good word to a friend of mine who works for a medical company. If you're unhappy with the medical care at the moment?"
Adrian might be down on his luck, and had lost quite a lot of his status. However, he still held friends in certain places, and he still had one or two favors that still lay unclaimed.

He had changed. She hadn't been close to Adrian as she had to others in the Senate Building, but she knew him well enough to know that whatever had happened in her absence, had affected him immensely on far more than a professional level.
Taking the seat he offered, and smoothing down her skirt, she shook her head as she smiled. "No, Sir. They treated me very well." Her eyes glanced down at her fingers twining themselves in her lap as color crept up her cheeks. Glancing back up at him she smiled sheepishly. "I think High Commander Kote being there had something to do with it." She was still a bit embarrassed by that, though it was no longer a secret. She shook the discomfort off and smiled once more. "Sorry, still not used to that. But I thank you. They were very good to me. Even my physical therapist was amazing." She laughed. "This has been such a different return then my last absence. I am still not sure how to take it all in. Honestly, I just want to get back to work."
She looked around the room and back up at the man before her. "I have to be honest though. I am a bit overwhelmed at all the changes. When I embarked on my last journey, the Hylian Way conflict hadn't happened, the restructure of the Senate and government hadn't happened." She bit her lip and frowned as she realized the enormity of what she would be relearning. "It seems almost like another world all together. I don't even know where to start to try and find my footing again."
The admittance at yet another weakness rankled the new representative more than she would admit. Only the dimmed light of what normally shone in her eyes gave anything away. She was a strong and determined woman and wouldn't let her near death experience, or what happened in that time, taint her love of the Republic, or dampen her desire to see that it remained a force to be reckoned with. She would continue to rise through the ranks and become a bigger part of what she still had faith was a worthy place to be.

Adrian listened as Alizabeth answered his question, and explained how she was feeling about all of the changes that had happened of late. Adrian could not help but smile to himself. Because he had to agree with Alizabeth when she mentioned that it was a whole new world now. In a sense, turer words could not be sspoke. The arcitect for this new world was now the Chief of State. Atara had played the game perfectly, she manuvred her way into the right circles, she made connections with all the right people, and spoke of ideals that people supported. Some others might have thought about getting some paid back. However, Adrian was just glad to still have the position he held now, and still have the chance to serve the republic like he had done for most of his adult life.
When Alizabeth finished talking, there was a brief pauses, and then Adrian looked back up into her gaze with a soft smile.
"Change is just a fact of life, and we all have to adjust to survive or risk being pushed aside. Despite my department not being as big as it once was before. I can offer you some desk work if you like? A nice comfortable assignment within the main building so that you can find your way back into things slowly and steadily. There's a lot of security here, as you might have noticed, no one's going to be able to hurt you here. Let a lone find you. There are hundred, even thousands of people in and out here everyday. You could quite easily disappeared into the crowd, and recover fully. Then again, I could just throw you back into the deep end, and assign you to an embassy off planet if you like?"
The prime minister's offer ewas honest and sincere. He just wanted to help Alizabeth get back on her feet. With everything that had happened within the republic of late. The faction needed all the people they could get in order to help rebuild from the ashes of the old era.

As he spoke of changes being a fact of life, she smiled. It was good to be home again.
When he offered to assign her off world to a foreign embassy somewhere, the briefest flicker of fear registered in her eyes. Even now, despite everything she had been through, the idea of getting on another transport and leaving scared the breath from her lungs. She recovered quickly and unless he had been watching, Adrian may not have even noticed. Liz recovered her smile and nodded. "I won't say a nice desk job for a while wouldn't be welcome. But we all have jobs to do, don't we? I'd love to help out here any way I can. But I am hoping I will be found fit enough to return to the rosters as well." She glanced out the window at the bustling city. "I can't hide inside forever, can I? And truly disappearing into the crowds isn't like me." She shook herself mentally and took a deep breath. "I'd love to help around here for as long as I am wanted, Adrian." She then laughed and glanced teasingly at him. "Does this mean I better fetch your stimcaf on my way into work in the morning?" She was teasing and hoped he would take it as such.

Adrian smiled when Liz made the comment about fetching him his stimcaf in the morning. It was good to see that after everything she had been through during her time within the republic that she could still make light hearted jokes. Adrian was not sure if he could do the same if he had been through the same thing. Although, over the past few months, Adrian had been through a ringer himself. At one time he thought that he place was secure and that everything was working out well and now...well not everything is what it seems after all right?
Just before Adrian said anything more. He turned to the computer screen on his desk and entered a few commands on the keyboard. When he was done. He looked back to Liz with a slight smile. "Well you're back on the active roster. However, I've left your position as open. Because I'm not the last one to debrief you upon you're return, unfortunatly. The new chief of state will most likely want to chat with you as well...just a formality I am sure." As Adrian spoke about his successor. There was a small hint of sadness and bitterness within his voice. The wound was still fresh as far as Adrian was concerned and it seemed as if he did not want to hide it away from others.

Liz knew Adrian wasn't going to be the last to speak to her, though she had hoped. She had seen the formidable Chief of State on the news reports and the woman didn't exactly exude a warm personality.
As Adrian mentioned her, that image was a bit more solidified by his own reactions. "What is it?" She couldn't help . part of her wanted to comfort him in some way. But another part of her just wanted to know more.
She tried to pull back from the more personal edge. "I've never met her." She said hoping her admittance would ease the next question. "What's she like? And what should I know or look out for?" She didn't want it coming off rude, so she added quickly, "I mean, I just want make a good impression is all."
Truth was, she hoped he'd be the one person she could count on from her past, besides Tal, who would be honest with her.
