The Engineering assault team left the storage bay and headed towards engineering section of the station, assisted by the detailed map provided by Meni's computer skill to assist Alex on her journey.
Shaye took up the rearguard trusting Alex to keep them on point. Troy was the the middle man guarding them both. This was what Shaye had needed to clear her anxiety. This her body remembered. The training was infused into her bones and muscles and mind. She wished they could speak as they swept through the decks. However this required stealth and that translated into silence and hand codes. She wanted to ask Troy what he meant about the SHE that was supposed to be HERE. It felt vitally important.
Troy followed quietly as he could. As he tried hard to keep alert but he was still distracted by the Orion she was getting through his blocks in is mind was collapsing one by one. The closer he got to the center of the station it got worse. At least they were heading down the core not up towards ops. As he stumbled hard at the blow the woman gave him.
Shaye was there in an instant to steady him with a grip on his elbow. "Hey.. hey, it's getting worse then?" Shaye asked her voice a soft musical whisper, she was using her wrist to quickly gauge if he might be fevered. She glanced up over to Alex a moment silently asking for just a few minutes to sort this out, please. Then smiling at Troy to cover the feeling of dread that was gnawing at her insides as she released him from her grasp. "Talk to me. Tell me what you know please." She urged him softly.
Alexa had been pausing at each corner, checking her map on her wrist that Meni had jacked to her. Then the next corridor as well. They had chosen to skirt the main traffic areas and were sticking to maintenance and work halls. It was a bit longer, but a few minutes longer around was better than short cut thru places they had to fight thru. The success of both teams relied on neither being found.
"The evil woman is here and she is attacking me?" Troy said trying to keep his mind from slipping. "Its the Orion mistress, she is here and wants me? Not sure what for... to use me as an instrument to get rid of you all or what?" Troy said quickly as he straightened up.
This shocked Shaye and for a moment or two several lifetimes flashed through her mind rapidly. She knew of whom he spoke.. but didn't see how it could at all be possible.
Things were going well till she heard a misstep in the staccato of measured steps she had heard from the others till now. When Shaye grabbed Troy, concern creased the brow of the woman at the point. Seeing Shaye's silent plea for a respite, she nodded. She made motion she would make sure they were clear to the next corner and come back. In silence she did just that, coming back and lowering the nose of her rifle as she stepped upon them.
"I know I should not have come. This might jeopardize the mission." Troy said quickly. As a single tear fell down his right cheek, Troy fought hard to keep the Orion at bay. He was not sure how she was doing this attack, but figured she might be getting help. "She is sifting through my memories and trying to make me act on them." He saw flashes of the past come across his eyes, seeing Del and Shaye die again, along with the majority of the guardian crew.
Shaye's second response was confusion. Orions were not telepathic, generally.... However, one look at her friends face and she knew that what or whoever it was, was manipulating Troy into believing it was this Mistress. The same one whom had been present when Shaye had been traded to an old enemy so many many years ago to save Nikolai's daughter. She hugged him close trying to be mindful of their surroundings as she whispered softly to him. "It can't be the same Mistress, Troy. That was ages ago and she should be dead... Plus Orion's aren't telepathic. Not naturally so, that is. It can't be her. It's got to be something else." It was moments like these she wished she was telepathic. Then maybe she could help him in some meaningful way. But all she could do was try to help him get through it. She was grateful when Xandra rejoined them and also tried to help.
Xandra slung her rifle and took Troy by the shoulders. It wasn't hard or even cruel, more like the comforting touch of a mother. "Troy... listen to me." She used her fingers to point to her eyes, "Focus on me... right here..." she waited till he was looking before continuing. "I can't help. I am not an empath, telepath or anything like that. But focus on me a moment." She glanced at Shaye to make sure she was ok then back at Troy.
"I know you can do this... I need you." She corrected herself, "Shaye, needs you. So does the team. Take a deep breath..." She watched him struggle with whatever was happening in his mind and waited for a deep breath. She needed to make sure he was listening to her, and not the voice in his head. Even if just for a second.
Troy did his best to keep focused on all things. He looked at Xandra for a focused minute before speaking. "It's fine. I know what you meant, Alexandra. It's fine that you think of me as that we are after all an extended family." Troy said quickly. "I am still here but its still hard. I am doing my best."
Shaye had moved back to give them a touch of space. She acknowledge the questioning look, gave him a nod to indicate that she was fine. "We must get to the engineering center do you think you can make it?" It wasn't safe here in the open like this. Still, she had to wonder if someone else might be in her friend's mind. Though that meant someone might know they were here. That set her pulse up a few notches. They needed to be fast if stealth wasn't on their side anymore.
"I can make it Shaye, before you ask. She is more focused on me and my being and she does not know of you guys yet." Troy said.
"That's good in a way I reckon. Let's get to engineering we can puzzle it out better once we are less exposed." Shaye suggested, her tone light as she tried to reassure him. Still, the idea that this bitch was still alive and kicking in this world seemed extremely unfair to the tenderhearted girl. It lit a unquenchable fire of rage that someone was attacking her dearest one and thus needed to be destroyed. But they had a mission to do first. Rage would need to take a backseat.
Xandra watched as Troy focused and reassured them both he was fine. Xandra noticed his biggest driving force was Shaye. It helped to know that. As long as she was in need, Troy would be calm and do what needed to be done. She, like Shaye, didn't like the idea of someone being in her tech's mind. She needed him to do things with the computers that she couldn't. But she also had to be sure 'he' wasn't compromised when the time came to compromise the station.
Finally, Xandra nodded and smiled. "Ok, then. Let's do this and get the hell out of here. Troy, just tell me or Shaye if you think she has your location or actions figured out or that she may be trying to manipulate you. Deal? There are things you can do to distract her if we need to. But I need to know so I can set those in motions. All right?" She didn't wait for a response, knowing she could count on his to do what was right. She moved to the corner and motioned them it was clear and they headed for engineering.
=== Arrival at engineering===
The rest of the way was uneventful. But it was when they reached their destination that Xandra sighed and took stock of the room before stepping the few paces back to Troy and Shaye. "We have four in there. Three engineers and a Gorn soldier. I'm gonna toss a concussion grenade. Troy, you and Shaye get to the fallen engineers and subdue them. I want restraints on everyone. No exception. And we need to get them to the side away from any consoles they may be able to reach. I'll take care of the guard. If I can get him down, then I can restrain him." She looked at them both and made sure they understood. "Questions before we do this?"
All Troy did is a nod to the understanding of the officer's orders. As he got ready to drag the odd engineers out of the way and play bondage, visuals of ideas of what to do to them flashed in his mind. He shook his head again as a stray thought smacked and along got him excited. He redoubled his efforts to block the Orion now.
He said nothing but shake his head, no, to the other questions and comment. He was ready to dart and grab or tackle one down and clamp them down with cuffs. Troy got ready for the other engineers to attack or give up a fight before the take down or tying up process was done. he let Shaye have her choice of the one she wanted to take out.
Shaye also acknowledging that she understood and also prepared for the encounter. Her muscles curling, adrenaline pumping, ready to pounce like a wild beast at the given word.
"Excuse me, my name is Mira. I'm the teams logistical support AI." Came a unfamiliar voice directly into Alex's comm, getting down to business as time wasn't on there side for a long chat. "Nikolai, would like you to know we have taken the bridge and have blocked off access so for the time being there secured, but you need to either destroy the primary and back up systems down here or hold and defend the room. We have also lost contact with the Storm, so we are unable to gain reinforcements but we are causing chaos and diversions to aid you but it wont last." Mira said into her comm.
Xandra had the concussion grenade ready to throw when the comm caught her attention and she growled. "Great... we're on site about to take down targets. He'll have his response momentarily."
Shaye cocked her head in question at Xandra's momentary hesitation. Then as if the situation could not have gotten anymore complicated, Shaye could hear voices approaching quickly from down the corridor they now occupied. The steady unified approach screamed guards! They were in real danger now of having to possibly fight a battle on two fronts.
Troy changed his tactics so now he was doing rear-guard defense to keep them at bay, while Shaye was protected, and deal with the backside. He did not say anything about the change as he turned away from Alexandra and focused on the rear quarter. He hoped the Shaye knew what to do with the change in plans due to the new party arriving.
Shaye was only a little bit surprised that Troy had shifted her to a safer position. It had been a very long time since anyone had tried to protect her. She felt the warmth of that gesture swim through her if only for a moment then turned and motioned for Xandra to throw the grenade they needed a place to fall back to. And that meant securing the engineering section just got more pressing. Shaye wasn't sure how many of those engineers it might take to kick her scrawny still rusty ass. But she knew how many they were going to use which was a handy piece of information to have.
Suddenly a couple things happened at once. Xandra tossed the concussion grenade into the engineering center. The explosion rocking the senses of those inside. "SHAYE! NOW!" she hollered. Her voice raising as the voices down the hall, hearing the explosion, were approaching faster. "Troy! Hold them off. Give us two minutes."
She stepped around the corner to see the Gorn coming at her. She knew she had 'no kill' orders from Nik, and her mind reeled as to why, so she merely shot the Gorn in the knee and moved in with the rifle in her hand shifting in hopes that a hard butt strike to the nose bridge and stun him, she could get him down and bound. She couldn't afford the glance to the others. All she could do was hope the startled engineers weren't giving Shaye too much trouble, and Troy wasn't being overrun.
The Guards that were on patrol and heading for Engineering heard the sound of battle and rushed forward, as they alerted nearby patrols of the disturbance, they entered the room and saw Shaye and Troy tussling with the Engineers and a rather spry human tangling with there buddy, they hissed and hollered as Shaye and Troy found themselves besieged by phaser blasts, one of which struck Shaye in the upper leg despite the armor absorbing the hit, the the leg was still severely injured due to the plasma's effect to cause a separation in the nano armor and another blast narrowly missing Troy's head.
Within seconds a second patrol showed up and began firing at Alex, who now found herself in a real trouble as the four security guards were infact burly Gorn, who hissed and hollered still as they besieged there pray with plasma and phaser fire.
Shaye staggered at the hit crying out involuntarily at the unexpected pain. She stumbled and if not for Troy's quick thinking and reflexes she would have been subdued easily. But Troy had done what was needed the enemy engineers were now laying strobe on the floor as he drug her behind a control console for cover and safety. She could only just see Alex fighting the new enemy the first guard lay at her feet as she covered Troys six as he got to work at the station to destroy the files and complete their mission. Shaye couldn't feel her knee or anything bellow it.. smoke still sizzled at the large hole in her armor to revel blackened flesh. Shaye hated burns to her they were the worst type of injury and the most annoyingly painful even the small ones. She tore her eyes away from the ghastly site and angerily leveled her rifle from her place on the floor and began to try and draw some of the pressure off from Xandra.
Troy did what he was told to do. deal with getting the shielding down and cutting power to the weapon systems. While trying to keep Shaye safe and destroying the files. He did this with no actions or speaking other than mental notes or feeling of making sure she knew he was there and focused on her well being and understanding. Strangely Troy did not show any emotion at this time. And he refocused on the enemy from a distance keeping anymore attempting to enter engineering and let Xandra deal with what she had to do he couldn't fire to help her due to the close proximity.
"Excuse me, again. Motherboard would like to know if any of you would like assistance, she can beam them into a spare room that she has located as well as beam you up here." Mira said with a emotionless and calculating tone.
Xandra managed to answer the AI in between slashes and attacks. "No... not yet. We need to disable the system."
Shaye going down was initially lost on Xandra, her back to the pair as she dealt with the Gorn. When the first went down, she spun to face the others. At that point, she saw Troy trying to take out the console at the same time as protecting his own skull and Shaye.
As Xandra got overrun, she spent more times ducking and defensing her stance than offensive and fatal blows. As a Gorn brought his weapon down like a battle axe to slam into Xandra's head, she ducked and sidestepped at the last second. The weapon butt slammed into the console behind her and the board exploded in a shower of electrical sparks and small fires. She kicked the knees of her opponent with enough force from her crouched position to send it to the ground.
She cried out to Troy. "Get Shaye... get to the bridge. Screw disabling the program, we are gonna destroy the consoles." She then stuck herself in the way of the close combat blows that allowed her to let the full enraged attacks at her from the Gorn, now in blind rage as they attacked, land on the nearby consoles and smash them. A moment later she hollered into her comm, "Nik... tell me the system is down! We need out of here!"
Nik affirmed the systems were down and Xandra hollered for him to take Troy and Shaye, first. She then fired her weapon into the remaining consoles to keep any of them from being used and hollered for her own beam out.
Xandra would arrive, on hands and knees with several bruises from the impact on her armour, and trying to catch her breath.
