Ari sighed. This was a time she had dreaded. She knew she had to tell him... but how?
Squaring her shoulders, Tink walked out to the hanger where she knew Romon would be on his bird. He hadn't been in his office, so where else would he be? Unless he was with Kelly.... She bit her lip as she paused then kept her stride up and moved into the hanger.
Seeing no one around, she headed for his aircraft and called out smiling. “Romon... you around?”
Her stomach was in knots. This was worse than initially coming to him when she was recruited. At least back then she knew if he said no, he wouldn't know her from any other recruit. Now was different. The move she was making was worth it. She knew it deep in her soul. Question was... would he understand. She wanted to always he there for him. And in this move, perhaps she could be even more...

Romon Darksands
Romon was sitting in the cockpit, conferring with Vamp about windage correction while he was scrolling through the targeting parameters in attack computer. "Yes Vamp, I know the computer is already set to factor in parameters, but now that the cannons are firing twice as fast, it needs to be updated." Romon and Swag had gotten a chance to try out Tink’s latest addition to the Rogue's inventory, and for a test run the system had performed above expectation. The rapid fire "burst" setup Tink perfected added a whole new layer to the amount of damage the X-wings could inflict.
Vamp's slightly heated response was cut off as Romon heard Tink call out for him in the hanger bay. Good ol' Tink, always full of surprises. She had (not knowing that he knew yet, Romon was sure she was here to break the news to him now) dropped a bombshell on him this morning though. He had stopped by his office to finish up a readiness report. Upon logging into the computer, Romon saw that he had a new message...from the personal department. Arestul had apparently put in a request to make her his new Air Boss aboard Republic One...and she had said yes.
Had Romon been younger, less experienced in the military, leadership or life in general, he would have stayed focused on the first set of emotions that hit him. Feeling a little hurt and betrayed, he was a bit upset that she would up and leave the Rogues, her family. But Romon wasn't a Cadet anymore. Putting those petty, personal emotions aside, he thought about things from outside the situation, and his conclusion was that this move was a good thing.
The Rogues would feel the hit, losing one of the strings that kept them knit together, but now the fleet would benefit. Tink had a way of organizing things and making them work in the most efficient way possible, giving her more authority meant that she would apply that skill over a wider area, streamlining flight opps aboard Republic One and any other ships operating in her combat group. Tink was perfect for the job and Romon would back her 110%, but he was going to make her sweat a little.
Looking over where her voice had come from, he spotted the Rogue, heading this way. Extending his arm out of the open cockpit, Romon waved and replied "Up here Tink. I tell you what, that laser upgrade worked like a charm. After a few more test, I think we can safely integrate them into active service without having to worry about too many reliability issues."

Ari
She bit her lip a moment, then straightened up and stepped into his view with her usual grin on her face. At least he was in a good mood. “I'm glad it worked out. I hope you didn't have any trouble with the switchbacks. I know we were worried about the burn out on the toggle.” She started to crawl up the side of his craft to sit next to him and settled down before suddenly looking away from him and finding a small rivet very fascinating. Tracing her finger on it a moment she took another deep breath and looked him in the eyes. “Romon, we need to talk... something, ummm happened last night.” She looked down again.
Pulling the spano from her pocket, she began to play with it. A sure sign of nervousness if he remembered her fidgets. She was pretty sure he did. He rarely missed anything. That's why he needed to hear this now from her, instead of in the Officer's Den sometime this afternoon. “So, I met this guy... I mean, well....” She looked back up and shrugged. “I'm leaving the Rogues, Romon... I... I got an offer to work on Republic One and I am going to take it.” She was about to spout off all the reasons where it was a good idea, he and the Rogues would be fine and... but she froze. Her prepared speech was gone from her head.
All she could do was look at him like a child who had just told her father she had been kissed. Would he be mad or proud? Kissed probably wasn't the best analogy... sucker punched was probably more accurate... but the results on her were the same. She was stunned... would he be mad... or happy for her?

Romon
Romon watched her. Eyes trained by years of combat to pick up on the things out of place were picking up tell tales all over the place. This wasn't like Tink at all. Romon was actually touched by the fact that this was so hard for her to say, it showed that this decision was a tough one for her, and if she had arrived at the decision to accept the Air Boss job, the she truly believed that this was the right move. Good, conviction was important for a leader; if she did not believe in what she was doing it would show, making it damn near impossible to instill confidence in the people below them.
Romon, however, wasn't going to let her get off that easy. While he was tempted to shake her hand and tell her good job now, he wanted to her directly from her mouth her reasons. Reasons meant conviction.
"So, you meet a random guy, whatever events that may have happened took place, and you just decide to switch commands? I know that you know that we need you here, so this must be pretty good. The floor is yours Cadet, speak your mind." Romon's tone, while just a touch hurt, was in no way other way harsh or cruel, more fatherly than anything.
